Strangest name I have come across in Korea:

Bum-suk,... Yu Bum-suk.

(No, I am not joking.)

As for English nicknames: "Dol-pin"(as in 'dolphin').

A little Grade 2 girl decided to talk to me and I asked her name. She told me it was Lemon.

I had a Lime once. Maybe they were cousins.

Lion and Tiger were my favorites, in addition to all the weird archaic and biblical ones (Abraham, Agatha, etc.). Come to think of it, my hairdresser's assistant calls herself Bible.

Good ol Bum-Ho Lee in the 2009 WBC! That was right before I came over. Everyone was rolling over that one.

Yes, they were a regular here a few years back.

One of my students chose the name Mercury. She said she chose the name because she loved studying space when she was in elementary school and Mercury was her favorite planet.

This name isn't particularly strange, but the story makes me chuckle. Last year was my first year teaching in Korea, and my 2nd grade middle school students were the most misbehaved group of students any of my coworkers had ever taught. There were a few of them who didn't even listen to their homeroom teachers.
Anyway, on my first day teaching, I thought I'd try to learn my students' names (laughing at my past self for this) and had them make name cards with the option of writing their English name, if they had one. One of the aforementioned students wrote "Thomas". I remember talking with him about it briefly. Fast forward a few months later, Thomas was sleeping in class during an activity, so I went over and told him to wake up and work with his group. No reaction. Louder, "Thomas, wake up." Nothing. "Thomas!" This kid... He lifted his head out of his arms, didn't even open his eyes, raised his eyebrows and said, "It's Tomás" and proceeded to go back to sleep. The amount of disrespect...but honestly I had to turn away to try to hide my laughter from the other students.

It's not just Korean students. When I was at university, some of my Asian classmates had some weird English names like Comet, Apple, Tiny, Kidd, Shammy, etc.

there was a chinese girl in my public speaking class named yolanda. nothing weird about that name per se, but i do wonder where she got it from

I had a kid insist on Arturo.  Kind of cracked me up.  Although not technically an English name, I let it slide being that I'm a big Arturo Sandoval fan!

I remember good ol' Rootily Toot Toot.

Back in the day any student who insisted on the bone-headed practice of an 'English name' got called that. Whenever one introduced themself, they would say something like "Hi, my name is Jason Donovan, a rootily toot toot."

The manager asked if they all said that, and I said "Yeah, pretty much."

Eventually they discouraged the practice because they said anyone with an average IQ could probably remember a student's Korean name. I said that that puts most NETs at a disadvantage but they seemed unfazed.
