Disparate songs that have a connection
« on: May 29, 2021, 11:09:52 am »
I'm listening to Steely Dan and FM is playing and the pulse of it, the almost there but never quite reaching a crescendo reminds me very much of Ravel's Bolero.

Talk about 2 songs that have a connection someway. Give me something to listen to.

I am a fan of BlackPink...now...a fter watching their documentary.  Even Boomers can grow  ;D

Don't know if this is what you mean, but "Killing Me Softly With his Song" a hit for Roberta Flack, was inspired by a Don McLean concert, particularly "American Pie".

also not sure if this is what you mean... but i really like listening to the original songs sampled in hip-hop songs. there's a great website called whosampled.com that lets you do that (this is not an ad).

for example if you look up "peg" by steely dan (1977) you can see that it was sampled by de la soul in "eye know" (1989) as well as various other songs.

Alfred Yankovic's "Eat It" has a connection to a Michael Jackson song.  It's "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough."  The connection, obviously, is that both are about over consumption.

The number of times I've been gaming while listening to either some random classical playlist off my mountain of mp3s or some internet radio stream and had to check to see if a Star Wars/Indiana Jones youtube video somehow popped up...

I think it was Prokofiev's Symphony #2 that Williams pretty much blatantly ripped off the Imperial March for. I remember listening to that and just all of a sudden like "WTF?" My parents who were all big into classical music were just like "Yeah, yeah, we know. That's why we liked, not loved John Williams.

I listened to a playlist somewhere where they had a bunch of these pairs.
