I’m reading about that now. Not a whole lot of detailed information online. An English crew sailed to Canada. Upon landing they ate food from the ship and did a church service. In the sermon the preacher told them they should give thanks to God.

That “joke” was so lame it only made Canadians look bad. I think it should be pointed out that Kyndo is from western Canada.  They’re known for mountains and salmon, not humor.  And, yes, I know Seth Rogen is from Vancouver. 

Well, I thought Kyndo's effort was typical of the level of Canadian satire that I've grown accustom  too. I wouldn't be so harsh on the chap.

Just for the sake of clarity, I've lived in Western Canada for a quite while, but I'm not sure I'd say I'm *from* it.
Also, this is exciting! I've seen others (less deserving get) them, and have always felt little stabs of jealousy reading through them.  But now, -- finally! -- I get a roast thread too!

Oh, you knew I couldn't not comment.  I'm being baited.

I won't say a word, but what is it with people wanting to claim they're from Toronto, anyways?  It's a great city, but it's not New York.  You should be grateful you're not really from Toronto.  The amount of "Oh, I hate Toronto" comments I get is tiresome.  And if you follow it up, you hear the inevitable story about a cousin they used to visit every summer who lives in Brampton,  so they know what they're talking about. 

And, it doesn't stop there.  Do you have any idea how often you hear someone talking like "Well, I'm from Toronto and..." and since true Torontonians don't do that, we have to suffer knowing long after this person moved away we'll still pay for them trying to bring up Toronto all the time.  The only way I could avoid it is to lie and say I'm not from Toronto, but who is going to lie about where they're from?

There was a dude who used to post ad nauseum on here about all things Toronto.  But, we had very different experiences growing up in the city.  It turns out he was born and raised in Burlington, which is at best a far flung Toronto suburb or bedroom community.  He claimed he could say he was from Toronto and he was a Torontonian because he had gone to university there.  I agreed that if he was living there he was a Torontonian, but he could never claim he was from there.  And once he moved away he was no longer a Torontonian.  I mean, I never claimed I was a Montrealer when I lived there for university.  I had the same apartment and never lived in residence so I could've made that claim, but it would've rung hollow.
