(2010 National) Grade 3, Lesson 3 - "It's a Monkey!"
« on: April 07, 2010, 08:59:16 pm »
I slipped into a creative fugue and made this too intense for my own good presentation. It'd be a shame if no one else benefited :) Big ups to whomever made the animal slides, I stole them from another PPT.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could lend any ideas for Grade 3. I'm in the beginning of Chapter 3: It's a Monkey. Any ideas or suggestions would be great. Thanks.

I have a routine that I do at the beginning of every class that usually lasts 7 minutes. The kids watch and sing along to a 2 minute youtube song (this week it is www.youtube.com/watch?v=rcTZ9Km7kCQ) and then I ask them "what did you do yesterday" or "what are you going to do this weekend?" to get them to practice their past and future tense.

Other activities I worked into the lessons between the videos, games and songs on the CDs included:

- A game where each row competes against each other. A student introduces himself to the student behind him and that student introduces herself to the student behind her and so on.

- Show student animal flashcards and say "what's this?" Go through several animals with the students.

- Name other animals and foods they eat and sing the MOnkey and Banana chant while changing the lyrics.

- Create a sheet filled with pictures of animals on a grid. Students go back and forth picking an animal by saying "it's a ____" The object is to get five animals in a row. It's simialr to tic tac toe.

- Create a board game where students land on pictures of animals or fruit and must say "it's a ____" The object is to get to the finish line.

- On mediafire.net, (you can find the login and password on this page) there's a powerpoint game called "Baam Animal" Students compete in teams in a Jeopardy style game and look at pictures of animals and guess what it is.

- Have students watch youtube.com/watch?v=altckbVlceM. Create a worksheet that asks for the names of the animals in the sheet and the reasons the lady ate them. Also include some matching pictures of animals to words.

Because Mediafire is gone, I'm gonna upload my stuff here :]

Some of it's mine, some of it I got from Mediafire and fixed, or some of it is just a blatant steal from mediafire ;].

Hi every1~ I'm very new to this website as well as teaching in Korea  ;D I heard I need to post 5 threads in order to have access to the lesson plans so here I go... Describe the animal by saying: I like bananas, I can climb a , I have 2 legs and 2 hands, have students guess what the animal is and let them find it at the back of the table where you unscrambled all the animal flashcards.

Attached are 2 Ppt games: 1 is a hidden picture (extremely easy), and the other is a game where the students listen to an animal noise and have to guess the sound.  The students love guessing the animal sound.  Having a little bit of difficultly with a few of the slides.  If you're more tech savvy than me, I'm sure you'll know how to fix it!  If not, you can just click on the sound button on the slide and the sound will play.

Hey, sorry about the lack of content, I'm posting to get five posts.  I'm teaching third grade in Chuncheon, Gangwondo and I did this lesson last week, so hopefully I can see your lessons on how you did it for some review later.  I want to see your lessons!  So this it my post.  Sorry.  My lesson was based solely on 'It's a___" and I used cardboard cutouts of shapes to get the students to make sentences...  along with magnets and a song all about shapes entitles "Lots of Shapes" to the tune of 'She'll be coming around the mountain".

I've written this story using the characters of Calvin and Hobbs.  Calvin looses his tiger (Hobbs) and goes off into the Jungle looking for him - on his way he finds all kinds of animals (it is a built-in guessing game).  The kids love participating in the story-telling in this way!  There are all kinds of sounds incorporated into the slide-show. Sometimes the animal must be clicked on to hear the sound, sometimes it is a little dot on the animal and sometimes it is on the script itself, just play around with the slide show.  The kids are supposed to repeat the phrases in yellow.  Enjoy!  It was a heck of a lot of work.

I have adapted this song from an old children's gospel song. You will need the Forte Free software to read it http://www.forte-notation.eu/en/index.htm. I have attached both a .pdf version and the Forte Free file (zipped-to allow uploading). Enjoy!
