Grade 4 Lesson 4: How old are you?
« on: April 09, 2010, 03:39:02 pm »
We skipped one period of 4g-Lesson 3 because it was a lot of reviewing.  So we're starting Lesson 4 a bit early.  I was surprised that the title is "How old are you", but Period 1 is all about "Can you help me, please?" and "Good morning/afternoon, etc..."

I plan on playing the Good morning song from Youtube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ZpjgfcMk5c

Then maybe the first few seconds from the Truman Show trailer here:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0rHH6LQdpI&feature=related

Then, I made a PPT for "Can you help me, please?"  The first few slides are a review of "Help me, please! Wait, I'm coming!" that they learned in 3rd Grade.  I tried to show the difference between the command "Help me!" and the request "Can you help me?"

This PowerPoint I made for the 2차시 lesson went over well. It's another guessing game. The Korean stars' ages are international, not Korean. And, please change the slide that is me, if you use it.

Here are the lesson plans for this.  Sorry they're soooo late.  Hopefully helpful if you're a little behind.  I've reformatted them a little so they fit better.  I didn't check if the dialogue is the same so you may want to listen to it first.  Available for Windows 97-2003 and 2007.

I'm reviewing lesson 1-8 before summer. This is a review idea for lesson 3 & 4 which will take one lesson. They make a book with simple expressions and then some will present it at the end. This could also be a fun activity before summer.

Here are my 'lesson plans' and materials for this unit. Sorry the lesson plans aren't in a very good format, my school is happy for me to just have them as notes for myself.

Here's a PPT with lots of extra role play situations I made because it gets tiring watching the same thing 7 times in a row!

Here is a a speaking practice game. It's from a fantastic template by Rufus, but it's been heavily modified.  Also, you'll need to put something on slide 28 - it had my picture and asked how old I was... but ya'll don't need to see or know that  :)

Here is a guessing game activity: Guess My Age

It has different Korean celebrities, so the students must guess their age.  They liked it a lot.  I turned it into a high or low game.  If they guessed the wrong age, I would tell the class to guess higher or lower.  I added a slide where you can insert your own picture and the class can guess your age.

1. "Guess how many" powerpoint (i hope it attaches)
I used this as a short 5-10 minute warm up for this lesson.
Give out small white boards and have them guess how many Doraimons they can see. Depending on their level they can either right the number in letters or just numerals.  The last slide is just for a laugh.

Its based on the "hot potato" game someone else posted. The student who catches the ball when the music stops has to guess thae age of the disney character. If they are correct i give them some candy as its quite hard. Then i get the whole class to repeat togther the answer. Went down a storm yesterday witht he first class i tried it with
