"I'll do it on the weekend"

"I'll do it at the weekend"

We don't even know what prepositions to use in relation to the word 'weekend.' My wish is that we didn't have weekends at all so we could speak English without being confused the entire time.

"This weekend" always means the first weekend occurring in the future.  Using "this weekend" to refer to the most recent weekend in the past will just end up confusing the majority of people.   I agree that perhaps on a Monday, one would say "on the weekend I did such and such," to refer to the recent weekend.  But I would never use "this weekend" to ever refer to a past weekend.

This exactly, in my experience.

The poster claiming it is otherwise seems to be the only one doing so. I've never heard anyone using 'this weekend' as he does. Or 'it's' - Koreans I know use 'it's' for 'it is', never for 'it was.' They know not to do that.

Weird.

I would say "what'd you do this weekend?" only on a Monday morning when there's zero chance of it being Ms. Construed. That's Monday morning water cooler banter 101 on a Monday morning.
