(대교 Daegyo) Grade 3, Lesson 6 - "I Like Gimchi"
« on: May 31, 2011, 11:48:59 am »
Bomb game practicing key sentences for this lesson.

Don't know how to post this in the next unit, but here's an intro ppt to have students practice target language and introduce the new vocab for this unit.

Here is my game for 1st period. It's a chase the voc game. You will have to decide for each round if the students say I like or I don't like.

Here is a Pororo Bomb Game that I've modified to incorporate this unit's target language.  I've included a few slides to review lesson 5: How Many Apples, too. The game plays through well.  Thanks to Shane Teacher for the original template!  Enjoy!

Usually I steal PPTs and mod them to fit my lesson but this time I actually made one. Here is my PPT that starts w/Key Expressions w/Korean definition, then each slide after asks "Do you like __________?" and shows a pic and the sentence. I also added some gross pics of burnt pizza or rotting tomato in order for the students to say "No, I don't like __________." Enjoy!

Also I whipped up a Word doc that you can print up for the students to do a survey w/in their groups and then you would make one big survey on the board where you ask if student #1-6 like a certain food and the group spokes person would help relay the answer to you by answering Yes, "so 'n so" likes_________ or No, "student's name" doesn't like _________.

I plan on opening the class by saying
"The book typed in Kimchi wrong. It happens in life. Every where in the world uses "KIMCHI", not "GIMCHI". "

I wish Korea had a standard for romanization.

Here's the PPT game I made for this lesson. We got the teams not playing to ask the question, then the team playing to verbally  choose their answer.

Actually, ㄱ can be typed as G or K because the sound for ㄱ sounds a little inbetween english's g and k sounds, if I understand it correctly (I've been taking classes but am by no means an expert) the sound can also depend on the context - just like an A can sound soft or hard.

Anyways, you'll find this alot - sometimes even Korea is spelled with a C.

Korea does have a standard for romanization, called "Revised Romanization". Under revised romanization, ㄱ, when followed by a vowel sound, is written "g". A syllable like "김"  is then properly written, "Gim", as in "Gimchi". While, obviously, "every where" in the world should take precedence over how Koreans choose to romanize their own language, "Gimchi" is the "correct" Korean spelling.

I made this powerpoint to review fruit from unit 5 and introduce foods that are stereotypically "American" or "Korean" in the context of "I like..."and then there is a guessing game (I will teach it tomorrow as a three corners excercise but it can be used for any kind of chance based game.
I hope it is useful :-)

This is basically the survey from the old book rewritten, and I think it's a great day 3 or 4 activity.

Here is a pororo game for the review 1.  It covers lesson 1 thru 6. My students are low level, so it is very basic.  Nothing outside of the textbook. If you like it, please give me good karma  ;D.

Much thanks to sallyafc for the Girls Generation game template.

My students at my country school are really low level, so this is a really basic and simple PPT to review the key expressions and new food vocabulary.

The slides should be self-explanatory, but if not, here goes:
For the slides with a smiley face, the students should say "I like _____."
For the slides with a frowny face, the students should say "I don't like _____."
For the slides with a questioning face, the students should ask "Do you like _____?"
For the slides with words, the teacher should read them and then the students can answer with 'Yes, I do,' or 'No, I don't.'

I hope you enjoy it!!

This is advanced Mario game to review for Lsson3 -6.

This is amazing!  I've seen this template, but you've added  a ton of animations and a few extra slides for smoother transition!  Well done!  ANYONE LOOKING FOR A GOOD REVIEW GAME, THIS IS THE ONE TO GET!!!
