I don't think this topic is started, and I'm preparing for my open class. If I've simply missed a posted topic, do feel free to merge/alert me.

I've become a big fan of this "Missing Dialogue" game, as a way to excite the students about the key sentences. (Plus, with the government's big thing on memorizing the dialogue this year, it'll look really good. ^*) I've attached my simple powerpoint here.

Also for my open class, I'm going to play a game called Sparkle.

For those of you not familiar with Sparkle, it's a type of spelling game. My students LOVE. THIS. GAME. I kid you not. (My 5th grade teacher played it with my class when I was young.) How to play: Have the students stand up. The teacher says the word. The first student repeats the word. Each student after spells the word, until it is completed. The student after repeats the word. The next student says "sparkle." The student after him/her "dies" [sits down}. (My students, probably like your own, really get a kick out of saying "die!" as the players sit down.) Play continues from the next student, going in a round robin, until only one player remains.

For example:

Teacher: Cat
Student 1: Cat
Student 2: C
Student 3: A
Student 4: T
Student 5: Cat
Student 6: Sparkle
Student 7 sits down.

The first time we played, we had to explain it well and practice a couple times, as the game was a new concept. And, to make it more fun, we played by teams, so more students would get out faster. (I recommend this for younger students, as they REALLY like the fast-pace nature of the game, and they can be more interactive quicker.) But once understood (and we let them use their worksheets, so they don't blank out), the game moves very quickly and is REALLY exciting for them.

As a Optional Take, you can change the spelling game to a sentence game - students should speak the sentence in order. Instead of spelling "Cat," for example, they should speak the sentence in order, maybe... "I can jump." - It's a little more challenging, but is played the same way, and the kids seem to enjoy it just as much.

I'll be using this for the Review portion of my lesson, before jumping into Lesson 7 proper. I really recommend this game, if you haven't tried it, it's remarkable how effective it is!

I also adapted the Mario Game for use with this lesson - not the standard a,b,c mushrooms, but the students should make the correct sentence. (I saw this done with the Pirates game, which gave me the idea, so thanks whoever did that!)

I'm going to try it out with my 4ths for open class, and I'm fairly confident it'll work well, but if there are any problems/suggestions, do let me know!

Hope this helps ~

This song worked well as in introduction to the lesson.  The students tell me what they hear and they love to do the dance!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yihq8BIhL9c&feature=player_detailpage   The Elephant song is really fun as well.

This is a pirate game template that I used. I just added in some pictures and new words. It was great for speaking.

P1.  The Animal Boogie song fits the lesson better than the elephant song (links on slide 2).

1- Introduce key words and expressions
2- Stuff on CD-ROM
3-Game was "Telephone Miming Game"

Game Rules:

1- Make 3-4 teams with an equal amount of students.
2- Make 3 lines (on behind the other.)
3- First students (S1) on each team goes to NT and she says a sentence (i.e.- The Tiger is sleeping)
4- Students run to team and mimes to the second person on the line (S2), the animal and actions (i.e.- mime a tiger and mime sleeping)
5- S2 forms a sentence (i.e.- The tiger is sleeping) and whispers the sentence to S3...S3 whispers to S4...etc...like the telephone game
6- The last student will run to the board and draw the animal with action.

I made a Prezi for "The Tiger is Sleeping" It can work for Periods 2 and 3. I personally made it as a quick review of Period 2. So, it only has the descriptions (Look at the monkey, it's small.....Look  at the giraffe, it's tall, etc.) If you want to edit it, send me a message and I can add you as an editor.

I've been having a lot of success with missing dialogue exercises and competitions in my rooms too, but I have been filling in the blanks on the board. Your PPD approach will enrich my lessons a lot. Thanks.

PS

Sparkle sounds like the bomb too... thanks again!

This is a hidden picture ppt. It covers on the words on page 80. Use it for review in class.

Happy teaching!  ;D

Thanks for posting but it's just the template, a nice one at that but a template it remains.

The sparkle game is a great idea, but the name was a little weird to explain to the kids so I changed it to the Woo-hoo/D'oh game using Homer, I made an explanation power point, also attached is a crossword and wordsearch, if you like them use them. Might as well throw in the Simpsons mmm donuts game I used as well, only use Bart as there is only eleven questions Homer and Lisa will be blank and U'll need the extra thingy to get the scores to work.

Two more missing dialogue PPTs, but these two are for the 2010 text.
