yea I thought about that when I was making the PPT but I decided to keep it simple for the sake of the lesson. They can learn that later on  :D

Students loved the banana bomb game - thanks.  Here is another bomb game - it's a little less intense...please let me know if you like it.

I made a short review for the start of class for this topic as I figured students may need a recap after summer.

The pics in the 'what's this' section appear slowly i usually let them appear 50% and click back to previous slide, students love guessing what they are.

On the "Do you like bugs" page click on the "mmm, yummy" and it should take you to a song by Timon and Pumba- 'Yummy yummy yummy I've got bugs in my tummy'.

The stars around the numbers are just for counting purposes and the title should take you to a counting song.

'How many' section is small as it's just an intro before a game based on that vocabulary.

Still getting used to PPT, so its far from great.
Hope it helps!

Thank you for your review.  Used many of the images to update a bomb game for 4th period.  Please double check the upload for glitches.  Thanks!

I'm not seeing any answers in the ppt. Is something wrong on my end?

Nevermind. Figured out that comment was referring to another game on the thread.

Excuse my ignorance but how does the bomb game work exactly?

There are many variations of the bomb game - including those that don't even feature any bombs at all - but basically it's a trivia game. Split the class into teams - I usually do 3 - and have a team pick a letter on the screen. Click that letter and they will see a picture and will have to say the correct sentence. In this thread, the pictures are of an item and the team must count how many there are and say, "I have 3 pencils" or whatever. If they are right, click again to reveal what they get. They will receive either points or a bomb that takes away their points, or a thief that steals points. You can make the pictures mean whatever you want. After that click the corner of the screen where you will return to the question board. The one you clicked before should be a different color indicating it has already been pick.

Then continue playing like that with teams taking turns until you want to end it. Make sure all teams have the same number of turns though.

Great PPTs everyone. But just to switch it up how about a simple game of GO FISH. I have a reletively small class and anything the kids can get their hands on seems to capture their attention more than a PPT. "Do you have any #?" ----------> "Yes, I have # #s" or "No...GO FISH!" They love getting loud with this. They work on numbers, you can teach them J-A if you want or remove them to keep it simple, and most importantly it's competitive so they don't lose focus and gain momentum.

QUESTION! Grammatical rule help!

So, here in our office there are 3 native speakers.   I think saying "I have 9 scissors" or "I have a scissors" sounds really weird, they  both (when independently questioned) said they would say it like that in normal conversation.

I can't find what is grammatically correct or incorrect... wikipedia says it can be either singular or plural, i.e.
I have a pair of scissors or I have scissors, however, I can't find a source that discusses the plural without the use of "pair."

I was lumping this in with uncountable words, but I can't find anything to back myself up.

What are other's opinions on this? (other than that we all probably agree it was not a good idea to include this word in this chapter!)

To me it's plural and countable in its plural form.  It sounds natural to say:
1. I have 2 scissors.
2. I have scissors.
3. I have 2 pairs of scissors.
4. I have too many scissors.  (used with countable nouns only.. for ex. you wouldn't say "I have too many rice.")

But I am not comfortable saying:
1. I have a scissors.  (because it's not singular...two blades)
2. I have too much scissors. (because it's not uncountable)

Hope this helps.

I don't know whether it's grammatically correct to say, "I have 9 scissors" instead of, "I have 9 pairs of scissors".  I couldn't find a grammar rule that would back it up, but I didn't search for a super long time either.

I'm pretty sure what you'll find though is this: that it's grammatically correct to use the word, "pair(s)" when you are speaking about a specific number, but in reality, a lot of people omit it.  The omission probably happens frequently enough in native English speakers' speech to say it's colloquial English - at least in America.  (I'm sure they never say it that way in England.)

That being said, when we are talking about only 1 pair, "a pair of scissors" or "some scissors" is most common.

I teach the word "pair" but don't worry too much about corrections unless I'm teaching partitives/collective nouns.  But I guess that's up to you and your co-teacher.

Hope that helps.
