Department Store and Mr. Bean
« on: June 13, 2011, 06:36:47 PM »
This is a lesson that covers department stores, their departments, and what you can find in them.

I start the class by playing hangman with some vocab word of the day as an answer.

Next, I printed off all the vocabulary items and taped them around them room.  I ask the class, 'Where can I buy these items from?'  I get many guess, but wait for 백화점 (baekhwajum) or department store.  Next I go through the power point.

During the power point I explain that silverware is called such because rich people used to use real silver.  You can also ask what poor people ate with:  wood spoons and forks.  I then cover spork which is fun.

Next I have them do the first page of the hand out by matching the items with their departments. After 2 minutes, I cover the answers.

Next I have them look around the room and find all 12 items posted on the walls, ceiling, etc.  After 4 minutes, I cover the answers.

Next I cover the dialogue and have them practice it among themselves, volun'telling students to practice.

Finally, wrap up the class by showing a youtube video of Mr. Bean at a department store.  Choose the 8 min video but start about 2 minutes in.  Have the students yell out the departments as Mr. Bean travels from one to another.

That's about it.  I hope this lesson works well for you.  Please, let me know if you have any questions.

Possible to broaden your thread title to allow all Mr. Bean-type lessons to go in here and not clog the board?
