I think it is very simple and funny. My students like drawing and making something.

Making books works so great for me with my students!  They love the mini books, and I make sure to have them write a few target words or short sentences, then they can color and decorate!  Here is a link for how to make a simple mini book from paper:

I find that ABC books on topics such as 'my favorite things' are well-received by my younger students, for example:

My Favorite Things:
A- Amusement Parks
B - Bowling
C - Cars
etc.
I have them illustrate each section.  They love sharing and reading each other's books
