I teach boys middle school and it can be hard to find something they are interested in. This lesson worked quite well because they love baseball.
I introduced the topic and some vocabulary through "Take me out to the ballgame" and then we went over some vocabulary. There is a lot of vocab but it wasn't too much because the students knew many of the words already.
I ended the lesson by drawing a big baseball diamond on the board and dividing the class into 2 teams. I used magnets to represent the players.
I had one student come up as a pitcher and one batter from the other team. The pitcher drew a "what am I?" card and read the 3 clues one at a time and the batter had 3 chances (strikes) to guess the answer. The pitcher is changed after 2 pitches to give more students practice. Basically, the game goes until 3 outs and the teams change places.
I found some of my "who am I?" cards were a bit hard- so make sure to look through them and adjust to your class'' level. Also, make sure there are enough "home run" and "out" cards to keep the game moving more quickly :)
Enjoy!
