Feelings and emotions materials
« on: June 30, 2010, 11:26:09 AM »
I have an after school class that has now come to a lesson describing feelings. I have found a few resources to help in this aspect, but I need more input to make the class as exciting as possible. Can anyone help?  ::)

This is a lesson I did on feelings. Parts of the powerpoint come from somewhere else, probably this website.

The fun parts - emoticons video, their demonstration of Korean emoticons,
Are You Happy? (go fish) with the bogglesworld feeling cards, and a miming game.

I do each afterschool twice, and with the higher level class we also watched this K-pop video for I gotta feeling. and they listed all the English words they could hear.

you could also try out some pictionary where the students only get the word on the card and have to draw a face of the feeling on the board while their team gets a chance to guess what it is. Good luck!

I had my students watch this video and try to remember as many emotions as they could.

They responded really well to the video.

Then we did a worksheet, which I've attached.

We also had to learn a dialogue specific to our book so I've left that part out.  Hope this helps a bit.

I use the MES-English flashcard set and playing cards  - start by having the children act out the emotions and letting everyone guess what it is - play a basic card matching game with the questions "How are you?"  "I'm nervous"  "I'm sorry" if you don't have the card or "Hope you feel better" if you do.

Feelings PPT
« Reply #7 on: September 04, 2011, 10:27:58 AM »
I made this PPT for my after school classes, on feelings. The last slide gives instructions for the students to write down how they feel, and then draw how they feel. For this I just made a simple worksheet.

For some reason I have a grade 3 class who doesn't like to draw (I know, right?!) & they all just ended up drawing a smiley face. They did however love acting out different feelings as I called them out. Then the students had to call some out for their friends to act. They gave some great suggestions including "summer vacation is over" and "Mom just bought you a new bag!"

Your 5th grade class can form sentences like that? Where in SK do you teach, and is your school large or small? I am a newbie to this whole teaching ESL thing and I work in schools with 50 students or less and their english ability is nowhere near that of your students apparently. I'm just wondering why that's the case?

I attached a PowerPoint I used for my 1st and 2nd grade classes.  The emotions are behind the colored tiles and they have to guess what it is.  This works well as a review exercise.

This is a very simple skit aimed at young readers to practice some feelings and "How are you today?"

Here's a PPT that might be useful for combing emotions with the phrase "when" (ie. " I feel ___ when I ___.")

There are several examples as well as several open-ended slides for your students to fill in what makes them feel a certain way.

I made a worksheet for this video.

I also added a PPT, bingo sheets, and a song that my first and second graders really like.

For the song go over the motion (stomp you feet, clap your hand etc.) They loved that part.

P.S. I just realized I named one of the files "Find the write emotion" smh and I'm supposed to be teaching kids English haha.

My feelings lesson plan, ppts, worksheet and materials for my "feelings day" at my camp. So, activity heavy. I used the pictures from the PPT for the flip cup game.
