I printed out the Snatch Game flashcards (Each slide should be cut in half) and put them on the board. Then I said sentences and two Ss would try to find the correct card first. Ex: I have two pencil cases. The trick is to make sure there is more than one flashcard with the same quantity so that they don't know what you are talking about right away. This way they have to listen to both the "two" and the "pencil cases" parts.

Got the How Many Ghosts PPT from my Cot.

Modified a How Many Hotdogs Are There PPT from my Cot. I wanted to stress, "How many are there?" instead of just "How many?"

How Many Pencils WS- Wordsearch and then they have to write the vocabulary word under the picture.

Tunnel game- directions are on last slide. This isn't mine; I got this game template from someone during my district training. I just edited it for this lesson. Great game but takes at least 20 minutes to explain and play with 3rd graders so plan accordingly.

I took an awesome Halloween game template (not scary) and changed it a little bit. I made a game to review key expressions How many ___?, Do you have a ___?, Yes, I do. No, I don't.

Maybe it's just me, but I feel that this chapter is extremely awkward. If the "How Many Pencils (do you have)" problem wasn't bad enough we have the Listen and Repeat on page 107 where a boy asks a girl "do you have a pencil?" even though he can clearly see that the girl is WRITING WITH A PENCIL! The list goes on. I have decided to add "May I borrow your ...." to the list of key expressions I will teach for this chapter. I also found a song to help them practice.

For those of you still teaching this lesson. I created a work sheet for the Very Hungry Caterpillar Story.

I used this powerpoint to practice the phrases, "How many ___?" and "I have [1-12] ___." using the key terms from the book.

I also used an activity I found on waygook that worked really well. I put up some flash cards for the terms pencil, eraser, pencil case, book, cat, dog, and pig. I then took a small angry bird character and as the students turned around and closed their eyes, I hid the angry bird behind one flash card. Then students then took turns trying to guess where the angry bird was by saying, "Do you have a ___?" If they were wrong, I would say, "No, I don't," and show them behind the card. If they were right, I would say, "Yes, I do," and show them the angry bird. The kids got really into it.

I noticed there's not much MC Hammer in this thread so I fixed it and now there's an MC Hammer-based lesson and the counting game.

Did anybody else use this chapter to also review chapter 6?
