I have the
Finer Words Than Fine poster and some Adventure Time themed reminders on Ps and Qs (attached) on the side wall. All my kids now know what to do when I ask them what the magic word is.
On the side of the board, we have a five point volume meter to provide guidance in activities and allow for cheking understanding of game instructions. 0 is silence, 1 is whispers, 2 is quiet speaking voices (group/partner voices), 3 is loud speaking voices (class voices), and 4 is yelling (outdoor voices). For stations lessons, we stick a small copy of this on the corner of each table's instruction page as well.
The back of my fifth and sixth grade classes also have a big display of student work. Currently they're the student namecards (4-5 sentences about each student) we do in the first couple of months of the new year with some seasonal themed cutouts to make it a nice attractive display.
