Lesson 6: Traveling Far Away
« on: July 12, 2010, 09:59:44 am »
Follows the activity on p. 87.  I linked the ppt to weather.com pages, but the links don't seem to be working now, just go to the appropriate page and relink them.  the kids love that it is live data around the world.

I made a ppt for this one last year.  I first elicited various weather sentences (it's _____ outside, etc.) then elicited different things we bring with us on vacation.  Then show various slides of different places, and say "I'm going to ______.  What is the weather like in ______?  What should I bring?"  and then have them answer in full sentences.

lesson one is a basic introduction and a group speaking activity. lesson 2 is an alteration of mtnbk13 plan with some addition. i do a point game where the teams get points for packing the right equipment for their vacation. and then i will end with the "what's the weather is...?" thanks for all the assistance. thanks mtnbk13, as well.

Mine is an edit of someone else brilliant work  :D

But I added a bit of science to the front. Reasons why the north ans northern hemispheres have different seasons. You could skip that. On the first period of the day on a hot day that didn't go so well.

But the bit at the end that I made went well. "You shouldn't bring your dog to school" "You shouldn't bring your fish to a baseball game" ;D

Show the vid "Where the Hell is Matt":

Use this as a starter activity. Give students a blank piece of paper and have them list as many places + countires as possible. You can choose to show it once or twice (depending on how much time you want to burn).

20 question Lucky Wheel game. Questions are mixed but focus mainly on the key phrases, and I threw in a couple fun ones. Made this for my mixed level 2nd Grade boys class. Should easily take up 15-20 minutes, more if you have each student come click for their team (they used to complain that I was unlucky when I clicked it lol).

Great PPT and Mario game. I was totally unprepared for this lesson so you saved my day. Where do you get the screenshots of the textbook activities?

I am using one of the fabulous powerpoints on here to introduce key language.

then I have a powerpoint game for the remainder of the lesson.

for the second week I have done a handout and a group activity.

instead of packing for the different weather. they have to pack for the impending zombie apocalypse.
they all pack 12 items individully. then get into groups. then i give them a series of scenarios following a story where people get attacked by zombies, or they lose items or have to trade off items for health.

the team with the most items wins.

i give them a scenario and what the weather is like at the start so they can pack appropriately.

Very nice prezi kellym. I'll be for sure using it next week with my students.  I'm especially certain they'll love the ducks... I almost peed my pants.
