Story Maker (Simple) Writing Exercise
« on: July 11, 2011, 02:59:12 PM »
I'm not sure where to put this, but I used it in camp and after school class with 5th and 6th graders.  It's really simple, so would also probably work for younger students/lower levels.

I used the British Council website's Story Maker (http://learnenglishkids.britishcouncil.org/en/make-your-own/story-maker), which is basically a simplified Mad Libs where you know what each word is supposed to be first.  You can choose 3 types of story, Fairy Story, Horror Story (not scary), or Sci-fi Story.

After completing the story together online with the whole class, I divided them into groups and let them write their own version.  There's a Pre-writing Worksheet, and the Mini-book in .doc format.  If the formatting is wonky on the mini-book, it should be pretty easy to just rearrange the page numbers.  I printed it out and copied it two-sided so that the correct pages lined up when you fold them in the middle.

Here, I'm just attaching the Fairy Story materials, since I have previously posted the other two in the following threads:

Sci-fi Story is in Space Camp (I used it Day 9 of my 10 day camp, thus it's in the zip file entitled DAY 9 - Sci-fi):

Horror Story is in the Horror Camp Ideas thread:
