Hi, this is a lesson i have been using for my top level Elementary 5th and 6th graders although i think it would work really well for any level! Its based over three lessons ...
LESSON 1 >
Introduce animals and get them to brain storm as many animals in 5 mins (I usually just write animals on the board, leave a stopwatch on the screen and walk out the room to leave them too it).
Then we play the "I'm a ..." game, showing the slides on the PPT and the students choose one side of the room to stand on and take it in turns to say "I am a ____, because ..." you get some really funny answers here!
Slide 10 is a link to a song on youtube we watch and guess what animals we will be talking about > DEADLY ANIMALS!
Brainstorm deadly animals before showing them the top 10 and giving them cards with them on and getting to rank them, first in life span and then in DEADLYNESS
LESSON 2>
This is really simple, talk about what makes the animals on the slides DEADLY and dangerous before playing the FIGHT game. Show the slides and have them think of who woudl win in a fight, and they stand of the side of the room accordingly. When they have finished talking about it if you click on the "Vs" on the slide it is a link to a Youtube video of the two animals fighting. the kids really buzz of watching the videos and seeing who was right!
LESSON 3>
For the final lesson i simply got them to make up and draw their own deadly animal, before talking about whose is best and why!
ENJOY ...

This is exactly what I was looking for! I haven't found much for 4-6 Grade conversation classes or 1-3 conversation classes. The third lesson looks fun!

Here's another version of the popular Mario game I plan to use with my 3rd and 4th grade after school class.
"Is this your (dog)?"
"Yes, it is/No, it isn't. This is my (dog)/This is not my dog."
I will also use the hidden picture game as an intro to recap some of the pets they have learnt.
Enjoy!

I created a lesson ppt about 15 different animals. There are ppt activities at the end of the lesson. Very simple but very fun and colorful.

I added things to other people's powerpoints to make these, so thank you to the people who made the originals!
For the first class, I went over the names of the animals and played the "Where's the Animal?" game.
I went over the "Describe animals" powerpoint the next class, while having them draw what each trait means on the worksheet.
I hope people will find these useful! :)

Here's a quick PPT about a few animals. There are 2 hyperlink videos on the last slide that you can use to show the class. Enjoy!

Thanks for this lesson. Some really good ideas.
I used the "I'm a _____ because I can _______" part of the lesson today. I used it as review of a couple of lessons worth of "I can/You can/She can't/Can she?/etc." My students (5th and 6th) had a bit of trouble finding interesting things to say about the animals. They just didn't have a large enough vocabulary base. They were enthusiastic, however, and I taught some weird words like "slither", "pinch", and "sting."
I'm going to do a few lessons on comparatives and then come back to the ranking exercise. I really like the idea of giving them ten animals to rank and then showing them the real answers.

Great theme with "deadly animals"! I've been teaching some lower level students animals as well. They seem to really enjoy animal "charades" or "pictionary". They're good games if your class is lower level. Have the students answer in full sentences! :)

I'm teaching an advanced group of 3-4 graders (after school) and we started animals today. It's a great gateway topic, as I plan to go through adjectives and verbs with the students. It also is a great topic for projects... Today I only introduced the topic and monthly plan to the students, so we didn't get past dividing animals into mammals/reptiles/insects/birds/amphibians... but I plan on introducing habitats and climates. It will end with the students doing a project on a single animal and presenting it to the class. I hope to turn one of the walls f the classroom into our own little zoo to show off their hard work. Anyways, here is my introduction ppt. Sorry it is so basic, but due to time this was all I could really fit in. Feel free to adapt it to your class.

Here's a simple "what's that?" animal guessing game, I've added a bunch of slides so it's pretty long. I used someone's template (possibly from the template pack) but I can't remember whose!! Sorry!! And thank you for the awesome template!!

Good work on this ppt. My only question is that there is reference to a word search. Can you post it?
