(대교 Daegyo) Grade 3, Lesson 8 - "Look! It's Blue"
« on: August 23, 2011, 11:43:29 am »
Here is the ppt for period 1.  Very basic. Good for low level students.  If your students are higher, you should add more colors, objects, etc.

Also check out these videos for songs about colors.

I'm very much afraid this lesson might be too easy. So I prepared this simple powerpoint. It adds a few more colors and items that they should know. It might be a little tedious (I will teach it later this week), so feel free to switch it up, as befits your own class. ^^

Here are some materials which I made to accompany the book "we all go travelling by" and which could be easily adapted to go with this lesson. There are a couple of videos for this on youtube.

For the guessing game each team gets 1 guess using the colors and transport shown (for example team 1 =  a pink bicycle, team 2 = a red bicycle, team 3 = a green bicycle). Then show them the next slide. If they guessed correctly they get 1 point. I usually make each student speak in turn when playing this game.

Oo! Also. This may not be entirely useful, but I compiled a bunch of different pictures with their respective colors. I'll post it here, though it is by no means ingenious. Just a resource, if any find it to be useful in crafting your own ppts/projects.

Here is a color song that the kids really enjoy. If the song file does not work, you can also play it on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lil3FuCP97k

Thank you so much for the resources Maureen!  I've added to your first .ppt and created something akin to a "Mario-Pirate" game.  I hope they can be of use to someone.  Thanks again for the songs!

My students and I both loved this song.  :D   It is really simple and cute and they can really sing along with it.  Afterwards, armed with their new found knowledge of colors they were ready to tackle Twister!!

I plan on using the Mario Pirate review with my students in the future. I used a version of it for Lesson 7 with my fourth years and they were totally into it. Now, every time I enter the classroom they start chanting for the game, lol.  :D

I made a bingo game for this lesson.

Print out the enclosed bingo sheets and give them to the students. Have them colour the squares a set number of colours (I used red, green, blue and yellow).  Make sure they know that they should not colour two of the same transport the same colour. Give them a short time limit to colour.

Then to play bingo choose a student. They say "I have a ..." Everyone else asks "what colour is it?" Then the first student answers "It's ..." Everyone who has that colour transport gets to cross it off for bingo.

It worked pretty well with my class today.

Here is a simple ppt introducing the words used in the chapter. Also it shows how to form a sentence with those key words.

Here's a short song to review colors.  If the students are wearing the color called, they have to clap, stomp their feet, or raise their hands.

This is a link that worked very well for grade 3. First they say the vehicles, then I turned off the sound and they said colours instead. My host teacher really liked it.

I was thinking about games I would play as a kid, and I thought of "I spy!" It's perfect for this lesson, but my kids like exciting games, so it was a little boring for them.

I made a few slides introducing the modes of transport, including a few new ones, and colors (with a few extras as well). Then I taught them "I spy something (color)." The next slide is full of pictures of different colored transport vehicles. The student picks on and says "I spy...," then the class has to guess which picture it is, i.e. "It's a car!"

Hope your class enjoys it! Feel free to change anything!

Attached is a "MMMMM...donuts Simpsons Game." Included material covers this chapter along with a Phonics review for letters A-H.
Thanks to Shane Teacher for the game template!

Here is a scavenger hunt checklist I threw together.  Hope it helps some people.  The instructions are on the worksheet.
