Chuseok/U.S. Thanksgiving
« on: September 15, 2010, 02:52:48 PM »
Yikes, I wanted to post this before but kept forgetting. Oh well, maybe someone down the line will find it useful.

Compared Chuseok and Thanksgiving, but mostly food-related. And they love food, so it should go over well.

P.S. The vocab lists at the end probably don't make too much sense. I was going to have higher level students write down the blue words as we went along and then do a short quiz/game at the end and lower level students write down the words for family members... I ended up not doing it because they wanted me to review last week's lesson first, but you can see how it works.

Thank you Cath-Mandu!! I used your Powerpoint with a few small adjustments. My girls really liked it. I changed the hyperlink because it took me to a video of the "Eat Me Song" and I wanted them to see the drama scene where Wednesday changes the script.  It was my advanced class so I explained a little bit of the cultural context of the play and the way it demonstrated two sides of the Thanksgiving story.  I also took out the blue words. At the end of class I had them write 3-4 sentences about their favorite Chuseok or Thanksgiving food. I was going to have them share their sentences with the class but I ran out of time. Let me know if you want me to post my version. (its not much different)

I am really frustrated because I can't download any of the files in this website even though I finished the payment.

Why is that?

I added some more American History to this and made a hot seat game.

During my class I asked students what they were thankful for. At first they did not say anything, then I started to say some things I am thankful for.  Then the students started to speak up. It was wonderful to see an attitude of gratitude in the classroom.
