Hi,

Just as a game I played for this class in period 3. I made the following ppt really quickly (5 mins) but its not the important part. get all the students to stand up.

You show the ppt and when you say 'GO' the students who are all standing up must perform the action on the ppt, dance, sing or run (on the spot). You then shout out a number and the students must get into groups with that number of people and perform the action until you say 'STOP' and then move onto the next slide.

You could get kids to sit down and be out if they arent in the right number but its better just to let them play away as its no fun otherwise. Remember to make sure to stress no pushing at the start but it should be fine.

Also at the finish call out the number of pupils in the class as the number so they all have to cling together and noone is left out as its a good way to finish.

I did this on Monday and the kids loved it, and myself and my co-teacher really enjoyed it as well. A fun game.

Here's a game I made.

It works a lot like DDR.  You should be able to figure it out.

First, I have the kids practice the actions and dialogue.  Then, I separate the class into three large teams.  I have one student from each of the three teams Rock,Paper, Scissors, for first, second, and third turn.

I then have four students from each team come up to the front of the classroom, and perform the dialogue (with actions) while being timed on a stopwatch.  I'f the student makes a mistake with the action, I make the team of four start all over again while the timer is still going.  Help the lower level students along - be easier on them.

The team with the lowest time gets a point.

The kids love this game.

EDIT!  I just realized that one of the sentences in that game is a major run-on.  The one that reads "No.  I don't want to dance let's sing.," should read, "No. I don't want to dance. Let's sing."  Yeah.  Sorry.

Gravity

*Must be elicited due to complexity

1. The teacher writes a number of verbs on the board (see 10 verbs below). Check comprehension.

2. The teacher hands Group 1 verbs written on pieces of paper with numbers assigned.
   Ex:
      # 1   run
      #2   swim

3. Group 1 assigns a number and its verb to each member.
4. The other groups assign ONLY A NUMBER to each member (1-10)
5. When the teacher says GO, each member in Group 1 seeks other members with the same number by asking Are you number …..
6. If a student finds a matching member he/she says Let’s…. and performs the action of the verb assigned to that number.
   Ex:
      S1: Are you number 1?
      S2: Yes!
S3: Let’s run! (students mimic running and search for the next member).

7. Students continue searching for matching numbers while performing the action until all members are found.

8. Repeat with other groups.

*Time each group if keeping score

There's a list of verbs in the attached file but please do adapt as you see fit.

Here is a great video for this lesson. My students totally mellow out in class when they watch these Gogo Videos.
