(천재교육 Cheonjae) Grade 3, Lesson 10 - "Do You have a Pet?"

This is for Lesson 10: Do you have a pet? with the real heads with cartoon bodies book. There are two powerpoints (one for period one, one for period two) that explain new vocabulary and grammar. The guessing activity goes as follows: One student comes to the front. I show the rest of the class an animal and a number on the screen. Student with his back to the screen must guess how many by saying: "I have ___. Class will say either "up" or "down." Will tell student name of animal before they start guessing. Students had a lot of fun with this!

I used the How many game posted above, just added some pictures and a short review at the beginning.
Also, a quick disappearing picture review game for the phonics words from his chapter.

I added the rest of the slides to the Pororo game attached above. I changed up the questions a little bit near the end to try and keep the students guessing. I don't think it made it too difficult as I saw that exact dialogue (with less pets though) in the teachers guide. I also changed it from letters to numbers, as it seemed appropriate given the lesson. Please leave any feedback as I have just started teaching and using PPT. I am open to all suggestions/feedback/constructive criticism/etc. Thanks.
edit: I also used pigs one time in the slides. I wanted to add more animals but I checked the book and didn't notice them. I left it just to give them an additional animal for vocabulary. I wasn't sure if I should keep using pigs or adding more animals not in the text. Just an fyi so you know why there is a random slide with pigs.

Here is a guessing game for students.
First, there are a couple of photos that have been photoshopped. The students should be able to figure out which animals they are.
Next is a counting game where pictures of animals will flash quickly on the screen and they need to try and guess how many there were.

The Pororo Bomb Game is excellent. I just had some trouble with the iguanas entering. So I made some slight improvements on how they enter the screen. Here is a smoother version of the game.

I am preparing a lesson plan for this topic. One thing I have noticed with both my 3rd and 4th graders is that pronunciation is quite good. It is the sentence structure that needs help. I'm thinking about doing a matching game with the picture of the animal and then the corresponding card will be written out. For example: a picture of 3 iguanas will be matched up with it written: "3 iguanas." The students will be on teams and in order for the match to count the student must state a sentence such as "I have 3 iguanas." This will put emphasis on the importance of sentence structure. Depending on the difficulty, I will adjust it accordingly. Thoughts?

Here is a word search that I made up with the vocab from the 10.1-10.2. I'm going to add pictures, but can't figure out the Korean microsoft office yet.

I brought in some decks of cards, split the kids into groups, and played "Go Fish!" The kids had a good time and aside from the animal names, it hits the key language. For my class, I just had the kids deal all the cards (they were flipping out because one kid might end up with one more card than another). You can change or adjust according. Anyway, one student asks another "Do you have a ____?" and the student responds "Yes, I have a ____"or "No, I don't have a ____" because it is the next student's turn. I also explained the rules of how to play with a ppt I made. I don't have it on hand now, but I'll post it (even though the cards in the ppt are from another lesson I did with my grade 6).

I was thinking of making a PPT that introduces the names of more animal/pets. Does anyone already have a PPT like that?

Try this game:
Make four large cards, each with a picture of an animal (I chose dog, cat, iguana, hamster, rabbit, and fish). Put them up on the board, and have the kids close their eyes. While they're not looking, hide a post-it under one of the cards, and then tell them to open their eyes. Using the expression, "Do you have a ________?" they can guess which card has post-it behind it.
I divide them into three groups and give them up to three chances (one for each group) to guess the correct card, with 1 to 3 points depending on how soon they get the correct answer.

I just played this board game with my third graders, they went crazy for it. Best to laminate and re-use the boards. Attached is the board game and PPT explaining the rules.

I played this game as a review for my students. I made about 25 flashcards reviewing the main vocabulary and threw in some extra animals and numbers. My students really love this game and it's super adaptable to all lessons.
Vocab with Rock, Scissors, Paper
Lay the flashcards in a straight line on the floor. Assign two teams and have them line up at each end of the flashcard line. When you say 'Go' the first member from each team starts to walk from their end of the line, straddling the flashcards, reading the vocabulary out loud as they walk. When the two students meet they have to Rock, Scissors, Paper, the losing student goes to the back of his/her line and the winning student continues along the flashcard line. The second student from the losing team starts walking and reading the vocabulary until the two students meet and Rock, Scissors, Paper, and so on. Give points for reaching the opposite end of the line.

Here are the PPTs I made for my first two lessons pgs. 84-85 and 86-87. It went over very well and the kids liked it.
Also attached is the supplementary presentation for the World and Me pg. 90 which I called "Counting Around the World." :)

This is a powerpoint reviewing the phrase "Do you have a ______," "Yes I have a _____________," "No, I don't." I used this as the intro to my lesson "Do You Have a Pet" and reviewed the names of different animals.
