(another) EXTREME sports! sort-of low-level MG(3) - HS(1)
« on: October 01, 2010, 10:11:49 am »
Made for my sort-of low level MG(3) and HS(1) classes.

1.  First two slides of presentation are tongue twisters and review.  Change or delete slide 2 to reflect your own review.

2. Presentation.  I got the info from wikipedia as I don't know much about sports myself so please double-check and feel free to post corrections.  It goes over seven sports and includes vocabulary for three videos.

3. Videos.  BASE jumping (play full), street luge (I play 0:56 - 2:57 of this video), and surfing.

4. Worksheet.  In small groups, students have to name one extreme sport from each category (air, land, water), then pick one and say the equipment it requires and why it is dangerous.

5. Assessment.  If there's time left, ask individual students what their favorite sport was, whether they would try it, and why/why not.

EDIT:  I just got through this with my high school students.  The two lower classes finished with a minute or two to spare, but my most advanced class finished with ten minutes left!  For the advanced classes, I suggest answering the group questions as a class and then having a group activity of making up their own extreme sports.  I will try make-your-own-sport with my middle grade 3 students later this week.
