Hair Styles + Hairdresser Lesson Plan for Girls
« on: September 14, 2011, 05:58:47 PM »
So my 2nd semester after school class is now all girls. I decided it would be a good idea to make a lesson specifically directed towards girls.

I did this class over 2 periods but I think it could actually be spread over 3. I was going to add a hair style quiz in the middle using pictures of 'Rihinnna' because she's virtually had every hair cut that the Prezi teaches. Unfortunately I didn't have time to make it.

You can see the Prezi I made here:

http://prezi.com/yipjtheyacba/hair-styles/

I've also attached roleplay file.

This is the good bit. :D When they present, the person who is getting their hair cut must sit with there head next to the white board. The stylist can then draw on the haircut the customer student requests. I think this was the funniest part of the whole class and I think they really enjoyied it, especially when someone chose an Afro or something  ;D

Let me know if you use this and whether it worked or not.

Also I nabbed the cartoon pictures and some of the listed names of hair cuts from this site if you wanna take a look:

I ended up making the Rihanna thing as a quick test afterwards:

Thank you for the prezi.  It helped inspire some of my PowerPoint and I used your role play document for my PowerPoint as well.  I put a lot of effort into this PowerPoint, but I owe heavily to two other waygooks for their slides.  The worksheet I've attached I got off of isl collective.  I deleted two slides that included pictures of me, but if you add pictures of yourself to the PowerPoint your students will like it.  For the role plays I generally give the students hints to help them fill in the blanks.  I suggest printing off those dialogue slides, so that you will remember what the blanks are.  I get the students to perform the role play by offering them candy.  A lot of the students get quite enthusiastic when candy is offered.  I'm just trying to help other people, because if I hadn't been helped my first year I never would have survived in Korea.  So I'm trying to pay it forward....I have been in Korea for a few years now.  The boys liked this lesson as well.

I used to teach a Fashion class at another school. Just wanted to suggest a few more activities your all girls after school class might like~ My students LOVED these activities:

---Fashion/Clothes
-Learn different fashion styles (Punk, Wedding, Casual, etc...)
-Paper Doll Activity (Get an outline of a girl and draw and cut out clothes and accessories for the girl.)

---Makeup
-Learn about different makeup materials and styles (Eye shadow, blush; smokey, colorful, Halloween, etc)
-Students partner up and draw each other's face using one of the makeup style they learned. (Didn't actually do this in my class. I just made up now. ^^; Just seems like a good alternative since my school was unusual and had the budget to buy all the materials to use real makeup in class. Also, I never liked the idea of all those kids using each other's makeup brushes and lipstick..........)

---Nail Art
-Learn different nail art materials and designs. (Nail polish, remover, stripes, polka dots, etc...)
-Get a worksheet of blank fingernails and draw nail art designs.
-Real nail art? (Maybe bring some nail polish from home or ask students to bring theirs from home and do each other's nails. Might be difficult to pull off without a budget but it would be awesome!)

---Designers/Fabrics
-Learn about different fabrics used for making clothes (Cotton, leather, etc.)
-Designing a T-shirt (Would require a budget for T-shirts and fabric markers....but it's an idea! ^^ All girls summer camp? Anyway, students can just draw their designs on a worksheet T-shirt~)

I handled Hairstyling and Make-up class before. In order for me to measure their improvement,  I required my students to have their own models. Well, of course, they should be willing to have the alterations on their look. My students did different hairstyles on their models. Some of them even cut their model's hair. The final presentation was awesome.
The activities went well. Everyone enjoyed and got amazed by the results.
