Optical Illusions

A collection of optical illusions make for an entertaining lesson.

They can be presented in a multitude of ways. Enjoy!

Apologies.
A correction on slide 9 -  It should say a "woman's face" and not "women's".

Thanks for this... I added some more illusions and a couple of videos to stretch this out to a full 45 minute class, used it with my after school class and they loved it.

This is great and I will be using it for my next lesson!

Landry were the videos you added on the last 2 slides?  When I opened it I just got big X's on those slides, any chance you could post the links to the videos?

Thanks again for sharing this!

You're welcome  ;)

Landry - Great additions, Thanks!
You removed the picture of the family on the couch - It's the best one!
Give it another look... Your kids will scream when they see it.

Thank you so much for this! It's like pulling teeth getting my afterschool class to participate, but they were eating out of the palm of my hand. I could not be happier! Great lesson!

I actually just used this great lesson plan this week. I changed a couple of things and added/deleted a few slides. I thought the kids would be tired of looking at so many slides so I just kept the ones that were most interesting or that would capture their attention (the last slide w/ the family was a big hit as well as the hidden tiger!)

Here's how my version went:

My classes are 50 minutes long (so really 45 minutes having them settled in and such). It's a conversational class so I added the meanings, key terms, and key phrases that are related to Optical Illusions that they can easier remember. These kids are low-intermediate so simple is better. They repeated after me in each sentence. Then went over the the activity and we did it all as a class. They weren't rowdy at all, everyone was glued on the image and figuring it out. We discussed it together as well. (roughly 15minutes)

After that, I split them into groups and have them create their own optical illusions which were a big hit! They were so creative! That only took 10 minutes, and 5-8minutes to present.

The last 10-13 minutes, I just reviewed quickly the definition/vocab and showed them these great optical illusion videos. If you don't have enough time, which in some cases I didn't- I only showed them at least 2 to 3 of the best videos. I'm sure you can identify which ones are the most popular ones that kids would enjoy a lot more if you view them all!

They all thoroughly enjoyed it and this whole lesson really capture their attention from beginning to end! So thank you again for putting this up!

These are really great guys.  My students will love them.  What am I supposed to be seeing in slides 25 and 26?

Great collection, but I'm still not totally sure how you make it an English lesson. Half the time there's just a trippy illusion that doesn't require any speaking. What kind of key expressions do you use with this lesson? Just wondering for some feedback so I can make a full lesson out of it in my afterschool class.

Thanks :)

Key expression might be "teacher! I feel sick!" Especially after that weird one where you look away from the screen.

Did anyone try using that youtube video in class (I mean the "look away now" one)?
If you did, what was the reaction? ???
