Tribond
« on: October 06, 2011, 10:35:18 AM »
This is a lesson that I inherited that has always provided a great filler week for before or after exams or just before break when the student's brains are essentially off.  Basically, the students look at the 3 pictures and have to think of one word that fits all three pictures.  I always play it in teams.  If they get done early, you can have each team make their own tribond and then have them take turns sharing while the other teams guess.

Btw, I teach high school but my students are generally between false beginner and early intermediate so I posted this in middle school.  I have used this lesson with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade students and they've always enjoyed it.

Thanks for the awesome material! I decided to use this in my classes this week post-exams, but I made a few changes for the way I'd like to play the game: I set the pictures to appear one-by-one instead of all together, changed the sizing of the pictures (my school's TVs are on the small side), sent some harder questions to the end, and added a few of my own. Posting my version if anyone wants to check it out.

Cheers =)

These are great! Thanks a lot!
Some of them were fun for me.

I didn't get the one with the guitarist, the car and the sticky bun, or the one with brad pitt.

Guitar-car-bun is rock and roll, rolls royce, bread roll. I couldn't figure out Brad Pitt either.

I assume the one with the lego is "legs", but does the lego really fit the theme there? Are the sticky-out-bits meant to be legs, or is it just in there for the name?

Anyways, awesome game, my class loved it. I accepted any similarities to keep the slow kids in the game, and gave bonus points for more creative or accurate ones.

Is the Brad Pitt one:

Hands on a clock
Hands in the air
Handsome guy
????

What about the wolf, the guy with the beard and the geyser? Faithful? But then why not a dog?

I thought the wolf, the beard and the geyser answer was grey.

Ah, yeah, I should have thought to include an answer key - here are the ones I've been using with my version, though they're certainly not the only possible interpretations.

Thanks for posting the answers! I've used these in my after school class as it really gets the kids talking and thinking. Great warm-up or lesson activity!

not to nitpick excessively, but the "ice" one (with kim yuna and the iced tea) has a picture of a cupcake with frosting, NOT of ice cream as intended.  i know it looks like an ice cream cone at first glance, but it certainly isn't upon examination.  should be corrected by those that intend to use it.

i'm also thinking of adding explanatory text to the hard ones.  i'll post my edit if i do.

I made my own Tribond Template.  It might be a little tricky getting in there and changing the hints and answers, but not too bad.
