Game board roll the dice or whatever. They will make sentences like "it is cute." or, "she has a big nose."  I used random pictures from similar lessons. Feel free to make a better version or change pictures.

Grade 3 Lesson 12 It's big 천재교육
« Reply #2 on: October 10, 2011, 03:04:23 pm »
This is a simple guessing game.  The way I played it, I had the class as a whole answer.
ex.
T: Is it big or small?
Ss: It's small.

Most times there was a general consensus.  But, when there were kids who had different opinions, we did a show of hands to see who guessed what.  No points or teams, just a way to get everyone talking, if only for a few minutes.   :)

These are the two PPTs I used to introduce the "It's Big" lesson.  It went over very well as an intro before they listened/watched the story on the books CD.

Yoteach, thanks for putting the extra questions on the car race game, there a problem with some of the animations but I fixed them up, here's the fixed up version.

Also is a revised version of the big/small game with the focus on the first picture. I found the original confusing when asking the kids questions, you'll see what I mean if you download both.

And a pass the ball game ignore the name.

i modified the board game that was posted on here.  my kids are a super low level, so now the board game is:  It's a _____.  It's tall/short/long/small/big.  same idea use dice, or rock paper scissors if you want.  i also looked up some youtube videos to show them if we have extra time in class.

There is a HELP TV episode about this topic. It wasn't specifically made for this unit as the show doesn't follow the book, but the dialogue and vocab overlap some.

Simple fill-in-the-blanks intro PPT that has students link familiar nouns to adjectives. Also, there's a picture of Martha Stewart with a really long hot dog. Disable the obnoxious sound effects and transitions if desired.

Ppt with some random pictures of all things big, small, long and short. Would be good to use as a warm up or review, nothing too special.

I have included here a vocabulary ppt (incl. spelling), 2nd. period review, and a spin the wheel game. Hopefully you can use these for the 2012 school year.

Here's a cut song and video my students liked. They can sing along with the "big" and "small" parts even though their level is super low.

Here is a PPT about the letter B.
I'll let you know if the tongue twister is too hard...their level is quite low.

Here's a 'stop the bus' game (basically scattegories).  Adapt as you see fit.

Hello ALL,

I've used the following Youtube videos with this chapter and they are really great for motivation or however you can fit them into your lesson plan. I used the first video for motiviation and the second video to go with the worksheet provided. It's pretty simple I just had the kids cut out the pictures on sheet one and paste them under the big or little sheet.

For anyone at this lesson already I apologize for being late with this. Here's the video I'll be using for this lesson. It was made for an English camp, but the dialogue follows this lesson pretty well.

This is a Halloween themed "What's behind" game. I played it so that the monsters equaled minus points and the team with the least points was the winner.
