Hey everyone. Here's my first submission to Waygook. I really ought to post more of my stuff since I end up creating a lot of my own things. I'll do that soon :].

In the famous sites slides, the reason I have a world map between every slide is because I had the students come up and point to where the famous site was located in the world.

The game at the end works like this: divide the class in half. Crumble up some paper to make a ball or use a real one. One team serves and must ask a question. The person on the other team that catches it must answer to earn a point for their team. If they don't answer it correctly, the serving team receives a point. Keep the PPT up for reference at start, but then after several rounds take it down so they are working from memory.

Please let me know how it goes if you use this!

(updated: removed personal references and enhanced it overall including better pictures for the famous sites section)

I'm getting the same problem - the file seems to not want to open in either PowerPoint of OpenOffice.

Sounds exciting, though!

Argh that's annoying. I tried downloading it from work and I'm getting the same problem. Not sure why. I'll give it another go

I fixed the original file so you can download from there now too

thanks so much for posting this!  greenfloyd, did you find that some of your students found the material too difficult?  i did a unit similar to this on naming famous places around seoul/korea, and my students didn't know a lot of the english names.

this is a great lesson though and a really amazing ppt!  you got skillz, boy

1. go to msoffice online and update: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/downloads/

2. after you've downloaded check to see if your document is in compatibility mode or edit mode.  You want edit mode. In com patability mode, features are disabled to let the ppt presentation work with lower versions.
3. I will upload the presentation again. Perhaps coming from a different computer will make a difference (we can always hope).

I don't know if it is of interest. But I made this song and video after returning from Canada. My students really enjoyed seeing how some of the vehicles in Canada differed from the ones in Japan. For my lower level classes we just focused on the nouns and made actions for each of the videos. For my higher levels we talked about how the vehicles are different. I am working on a worksheet for now if anyone is interested.

This looks really good. I'm planing on using it tomorrow. I'm guessing the video that was embedded in it was removed in the last edit, eh? (or at least it didn't load for me) If anyone's looking for some more videos to pad with I think I'm going to use some of the clips from the "Lonely Planet" channel on Youtube:http://www.youtube.com/user/lonelyplanet?blend=2&ob=4

Also, to Marty: Love the "Vehicles Song"

this is a great lesson. thanks so much for uploading it.

my co-teacher suggested translating recognize as 알다 in the PPT (then having her explain the difference), since the first year middle schoolers don't know what 인지하다 means.

i made up a handout so the students could follow along with the various language points. i split my class into six equal groups, and quizzed each team throughout the PPT.

it's a wonderfully paced lesson, and i hope to use it as a template for other language points in the future.

Awesome lesson! Unfortunately, I don't have much faith in my classes playing question volleyball so I changed the activity. I will put the class in 8 teams (this number usually works best for me), and teams will be awarded points when members point out the different places on the map. Each team will then be shown a video clip of different cities in the world and have ot guess where each is. If they get it worng, other teams can have a go. Some of the clips you will have to start a little in, as some say the place names at the beginning. There is also nudity in the Mexico City video- so be sure to cut before that! In the nest activity, students will be shown a video of the 196 countries in the world, and will have 2 minutes to come up with as many as they can from the different continents. I also took South Africa out of the English main language countries. I haven't used this yet, so still a bit of a work in progress so any feedback appreciated. Thanks again for the great PPT.
