Hidden pictures game for reviewing...

I usually make these PPTs for Show Time to have students practice the dialogue before inviting some students to act for the class.

The first time through is just a read-through, followed by a "fill-in-the-missing-word" challenge and then another challenge to remember the whole phrase/sentence.  After this, I try to get at least a couple of pairs of students to act for the class using some simple props (ukelele, badminton rackets, etc).  The students can refer back to the PPT if they forget the lines.  It definitely helps to have the students practice the dialogue a few times first before getting the students to act.

I didn't check out the other Show Time slide posted, maybe that one's just as good.  Here's mine.

Tic tac toe game. My students never played tic tac toe before! They referred to it as Bingo.

Also a fun sport vide for introducing the lesson.

Writing Activity

My students were bored senseless with this lesson by the second period. So on the third day, I looked at them and said, "This lesson is boring, huh?" They responded with a hearty, "YES, teacher. I hate this English." I pretended to be offended and told them we could make funny English, which caught their attention. I gave them these rules:

1. Write 5 sentences.
2. Use our key expression, "Let's __________."
3. Have fun.

I warmed them up with some examples like, "Let's eat trees!" and "Let's hug a shark." Once they realized the level of ridiculous I wanted, they were off. My lowest-level kiddos either stole from the textbook and wrote about sports, practicing the lesson's key expressions or got  help from some friends to write their funny sentences. My high level kids made out-of-control weird sentences. It was a huge hit and every student wrote more than the 5 sentence minimum I set.

Some of my favorites include:
  • Let's ride a monkey to the moon.
  • Let's eat the earth.
  • Let's mail a million mosquitos to North Korea.
  • Let's ride a dolphin bicycle.
