Clue - Classic Detective Game
« on: November 05, 2010, 02:03:15 PM »
hey everyone!

i made a clue game as a review for an after school 'gifted' class. i made a ppt to introduce the suspects, rooms, and weapons, a clue game sheet to mark answers on, and i found some clue cards online. you will just have to cut the cards out.

i'm using it to review a story we read in class. i'm going to put the students in teams (maybe 4 or so) and each team will get 3 cards. i will keep a suspect, room, and weapon card aside. instead of rolling the dice, i will ask them a question pertaining to the story. if they answer correctly they can take a guess as to the criminal, room, and weapon. they will mark their clues on their sheets. the first team to guess correctly wins. i just made a list of questions i'm going to ask, i didn't include it in the ppt. feel free to modify it, i didn't get too involved with the back story. lol. enjoy! ;D

thanks! i had to do an example round with the students, and helped them mark their clues on the clue sheet. after that, they understood what to do.

Thank you, thank you.  It's fabulous. So grateful to get it and am looking forward to using it.

I shrunk your awesome suspects, weapons and room cards onto the back side of an A4. I will laminate onto the back of the checkoff lists to help the kids remember the details.

Sooo... maybe I didn't play "Clue" enough as a kid.
I can't figure this game out.

How do you know who did it?? Is it the one set of cards the teacher kept aside?
How do the kids guess? The just invent and the other groups sharing what cards they have makes them go through process of elimination?

Thanks!

Clue - Classic Detective Game

I used to love this game growing up, and I wish I had it here, so I made one for my grade 5 after school class.
The game is pretty simple. Students can be in partners of by themselves. 4-6 players works best.
Assign a suspect to each player.
At the beginning of each game put 3 cards (one of each:weapon, room, suspect) into the orange envelope, don't let anyone see.
Next deal out the remaining cards, shuffled. Students should check off the cards they received on their check list, without letting anyone else see their list.
Roll the die to see who goes first.
Players should aim to get into the rooms. When they are in a room, they can suspect the murder (ex. "I think it was Mr./Ms. ________ in the whatever room they are in with the _________weapon.")
Starting from the person on their left if someone has one of the cards suspected they should show one card. Once one card has been shown to the person who asked, the round is over. That person should check off the card that was shown to them on their check list.
The object of the game is to solve the murder (what 3 cards are in the envelope). If you suspect a murder and no one can prove you wrong by showing you a card, then you get to look inside and if you're right, you win.

Hope that was clear. Enjoy!

Jamster -- Awesome job!  I am going to use this with my high school students.  We are working with the phrase "I bet...."  This is perfect! Thank you!

Thanks a lot.  I've been looking to make this game forever.  Never thought to look on here until I stumbled across this.  I have a printer and a lamenator so I know what I'll be working on my next spare.  Thanks a ton.

Would love to play this game with my advanced class in elementary school, but I think the rules might be too had for them to understand in English.

Are there any Korean instructions out there for this game?

Thank you so much for this lesson, to all the contributors. It is perfect for winter camp.

I use a Clue set up for a lesson on the "planning" or future intention tense, to practice "Are you going to ...?"/"No I'm not planning to ..."  I have another one for shopping, which practices the completeed action in the past with auxiliary did.  I took a lot pictures the first and second years I did this at my boy's high school, so I have fairly exhaustive photos illustrating each aspect of set-up and play. I made a version of this game a couple years ago and even posted it on Waygook.

Here's the link to the thread that I made.
