Simon's cat: 3rd person past tense
« on: October 31, 2011, 05:15:58 PM »
This is a GREAT telephone game that really got every single student in class talking in an organized fashion and keeping their attention.  Plus Simon's Cat is absolutely cute.  The website wont permit me to upload the videos i have in their current format but I strongly recommend these five videos for the class activity: "let me in" "Santa Claws" "The box" "Tv Dinner" and "Fly Guy"   They are all readily available on you tube.

I attached a handout I made for my lower level students! But in some relevant words and had my CT write the Korean. Thanks so much, I'll be trying this out today with my third graders. ^^

I added more to the ppt and changed the activities (still working with past tense).  It went very well with my students.
1.  Review past tense, do a few examples, talk about pets, brainstorm what cats do and write the verbs on the board.
2.  Students do a handout (write the past tense of some words) and go over the answers together.
3.  Watch "Fly Guy" and fill in the blanks together (What did Simon's cat do?)
4.  Watch "Nut Again" and elicit full sentences from students.
5.  "Cat and Mouse" and "Double Trouble"  Do a partner activity.  Student 1 turns back to screen, student two watches the video and describes the video to Student 2, after the video ask Student 1 to tell me what happened in the video.  Switch places and do it agian. (use handouts)
6.  Give each groups a comic from "Icecapade" and "Hop It"  If there is time, watch the video, have students write the speech bubbles for one of the comics.
7.  Review
