THANKSGIVING
« on: November 10, 2010, 03:07:09 PM »
Hey all
I wanted to start the Thanksgiving thread. I made a video with Adam Sandlers Thanksgiving song. I editted out any inappropriate parts and added pics. I hope it is good. I think its funny. Let me know if anything is still inappropriate. I attached the lyrics too, its very easy!

Thanksgiving

I've just finished writing up my yearly Thanksgiving Art Lesson Plan and wanted to share   :)

It's mainly an art lesson with an added bonus of worksheets with blank spaces for labeling turkey parts.

Here's a Thanksgiving word search.  Items with two words I separated but stacked them at the bottom of the sheet to students will understand that they are connected.  I am going to use this following Liz's PPT.  My operating system is in Korean so hopefully you the .hwp file works for you all, if not I can post as a doc.

If you delete/change some of the questions, this game could be useful:

This is a PPP i made featuring all the food that is incorporated in an American Thanksgiving.  I plan to hand a crossword puzzle with it as well.  Has anybody done this before? (i know the answer is yes) and How did you go about teaching it?  Is the PPP good? Simple i know~~

Elementary: Thanksgiving Introduction Powerpoint
« Reply #10 on: November 06, 2011, 10:17:05 PM »
A Thanksgiving introduction ppt for my low-level elementary students.
There's also a cute video midway through the ppt. I, also, have an activity at the end of the powerpoint.
I'm making a "I'm thankful for..." Thanksgiving tree after the presentation...
You can always change anything you want!
Have fun!

I had to do a Thanksgiving class for 5th graders and I found an activity that really works.
To get kids to say what they were thankful for, I wrote Thanksgiving *vertically* on a piece of paper. You can make it as fancy or simple as you want. I used this sheet as a template: http://www.apples4theteacher.com/holidays/thanksgiving/printables/acrostic-poem.html

For each letter, they need to write one or two things they are thankful for.
T - turkey, teachers
H - hair, holidays
etc. This usually takes about 5-7 min depending on the level of the students.

Then we play a game!
Each team has to say 1 thing they are thankful for in turns. So, we start with the letter T. One student from Team 1 stands up and says a thing they are thankful for, e.g. turkey. Team 2 says teachers.
If two students say different words at the same time, minus 1 pt. OR if they say something that doesn't make sense, minus 1 pt. (e.g. "new" - "You're thankful for new?")
I like to write the words up on the screen as they're saying the answer. It reinforces spelling correctly and gives students that didn't hear a chance to see what they missed.

This game gets very loud so it's important to take your time, go slow, and make sure you take away pts for talking. My first two periods of doing this was CRAZY loud.

Hope this helps! ^^

Very jealous of your presentation.  So jealous, in fact, that I took your map.  My PPT is not quite so nice, but in the interest of options, here it is. Bit more of a food focus.

I'm adding a fill-in-the-blank and draw booklet I've got for 3rd grade and a worksheet for 4th.

Angry Birds Thanksgiving Lesson
« Reply #14 on: November 17, 2011, 02:45:24 PM »
Here is an "Angry Birds Thanksgiving" lesson I put together for my after school class. First, I'm going to be showing the Youtube link below, which is a clip from Charlie Brown's Thanksgiving, to stimulate interest and then I'm going to continue on with the power point. You may need to add something else to the lesson for the sake of time, but here is what I have thus far.

Also, for the "I'm thankful 4" activity I just made a 4 stencil using a ruler and a firm piece of printer-sized paper. I think it will work just fine. Here is the website I got the activity from in case anyone needs more details:

Thanksgiving ppt.
« Reply #15 on: November 22, 2011, 09:08:17 AM »
Here's a simple American Thanksgiving ppt. Not much history, and the only grammar is "I am thankful for ___." There's a "Save the turkey" game at the end, too. If you save the turkey, you get 5 points. If you kill the turkey, minus 5 points. There's 1,2,3 points and a switch points with another team, too. Teams take turns making sentences with the boxes. Hope someone can use this!

THANKSGIVING PPT Lesson with VIDS
« Reply #16 on: November 24, 2011, 09:15:39 AM »
Hey guys, here is a Thanksgiving PPT that I made. My kids REALLY loved it!  ;D I wasn't sure where to post it, and I wanted anyone who needed a Thanksgiving PPT to be able to have one. Hence, I posted it here and on the 6th grade board.

The PPT includes LOTS of food (turkey, sides, and desserts), football, parades, as well as links to youtube vids that coincide with the particular slides in the PPT. Also, at the end, I included some information on the day AFTER Thanksgiving, a.k.a. BLACK FRIDAY.  8)

At the end there is a simple crossword puzzle in which the students can pretty easily find 6 words.

I also included 2 videos that I made about football and Black Friday that can be played according to the "Video" slides in the PPT . I edited together a lot of clips from youtube and added music. I hope that someone finds it useful. Have a great day everyone. And HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

P.S. - I want turkey.  :'(

I also did the American Thanksgiving theme for my After school Grade 3&4 class.
Here are my lesson plans etc.

The link for the Arts & Crafts turkey made out of hand-prints:

Some awesome worksheets for the kids:

And then I just googled to find some flashcards.

We're going to talk about Chuseok in class, so I thought I'd talk about some other harvest festivals.  Here's a PPT about different harvest festivals around the world and a quick worksheet, including an acrostic poem.  Should be good for 5th or 6th grade.
