(YBM Si-Sa) Grade 3, Lesson 12 - "I Can Play Soccer"
« on: November 07, 2011, 12:05:00 pm »
Couldn't find anything for this lesson when I searched, so here is a very simple PPT for vocab introduction.  The second part is a review activity where students need to write the answer. This is for a relatively low level and poorly behaved class; feel free to improve.

Adding on a Mario game for review. Thanks for the great template.

But here is a PPT for the lesson.

Here's a tic tac toe game I made and some other bits I have found.
Also here's the link to the 'I can run' song that one of the worksheets is for:

Here is a nice and easy bingo game where students have to find another student who can or can't do something. I hope it helps. It is similar to the game on page 135.

Here is a PowerPoint I used to introduce the new vocabulary and sentences for this chapter. I used two PowerPoints from other people and combined and modified them. For the matching game at the end, if you click on the number, the box will disappear. If you click on the box, it will disappear only for a moment and then return.

Can Do Kid song from my Cot.

Modified a PPT that was already on this thread to include some of the "I can" sentences from the song.

Then small cards to play charades. I either brought one student up to the front to do the charades and let the class guess or I brought up each group at a time to see how many cards their team could guess in a set time. Go for 45 sec. 30 is too short and with 1 min. a few teams might finish all of the cards.

Got this template from an earlier chapter of this book. Thanks to the OP. Ss or groups choose a word and read the sentence to see if there is a monkey behind the box or not.

I think on the first slide there are 5 monkeys, second slide 3 monkeys and third slide 6 monkeys.

We also played a Twister listening game. I printed out some of the slides from the Where are the Monkeys game with the sentences on them, cut out the sentences and taped them to a picnic mat. Use packing tape and cover the whole paper slip. Then you can have your students play Twister after you say a sentence. I tried it a couple of different ways and the easiest is to call two students up, you read some sentences and they take turns touching them. For example, I read, "I can swim." and then only one student put one foot on that box. Then I read, "Can you kick?" and the other student put one foot down. They keep their feet there and after the next sentences, have to use a different body part. Usually goes feet first, then hands and if they haven't fallen with all four of those, try one or two more sentences. They would have to use elbows, knees or their head without moving from their previous spots.

It usually works better to have two girls play and then a second round with two boys or else the giggling gets to be out of control. I had the other kids get out of their seats and form a circle around the Twister board. They helped point out the correct sentences to the players.

I use this in the first class of each unit. The kids listen to the "Look and Speak" dialogue and have to recall what was said in order to receive points. They get really into it!

A video based on the book that the Storytime section is based on.

Mostly silent video so no subtitles necessary. About 26 minutes long
