My coteacher was given a $10,000 budget to buy English games/book/resources. Basically anything related to English. It's for middle school grades 1-3 and only about 120 students. Does anyone have any recommendations?? Thanks.

English class budget. Give me ideas on how to spend this money.

My COT just told me we have 5 million to spend on stuff for the classroom and if we don't spend it all we will not get the same amount next year. Do you have any ideas or recommendations. Anything you wish you had but don't? All I can think of is books, grammar books, maybe some DVD's and board games.

How about some technology, too?  If you don't have that already anyways. Like tv, projector, computer etc

There really should be a stickied thread for this topic considering how often it comes up.

Books, and lots of them. Things that your students would like to read. Are they young? Then story books are okay. Only boys? Maybe some manga (in English!) then. Girls? Why not a subscription or two to something like a Western Teen Beat magazine? Games are good all around. As would be individual white boards. Lots of markers. And if you are still struggling to spend that cash, then a tablet or two.

Definitely board games like Uno, Jenga, Guess Who?, and Scrabble.  If your school doesn't already have a bunch of supplies then board markers and erasers.  Individual white boards for class games.  Construction/colored paper for future craft ideas, like cards.  My room had a ton of books from previous years and NO ONE borrows or reads them with the exception of a few teachers who have checked out some grammar books.  Same goes with DVDs.  I feel like those books and DVDs are just there on the shelves for decoration and to spend the max budget.

You may want to see how much of that money that you personally will be able to decide how to use. The budget for the whole department is probably 5,000,000, and there are many things that will come out of that. Some good things are technology, mid-sized white boards, fake money sets, DVDs that have hard coded Korean subtitles, for sure lots of markers (I go through a lot in one year with the group white boards), dictionaries (Korean to English - quite expensive also)...Ah, I tip about the while boards - get the two sided ones, otherwise students will write all over the backs of them and you can't get it off.
