Here's a great video about colours from They Might Be Giants. Their songs are always catchy and interesting! My students love them.

Couple of powerpoints stolen from other threads and modified to fit this lesson. One vocab intro, one white board game that I'm using for lesson 2 instead of the book's speak and play.

Songs:

What color is the sky?

Some worksheets I got from The British Council. The rainbow worksheet also has a video here http://learnenglishkids.britishcouncil.org/en/songs/i-can-sing-rainbow

The matching game - print the attachment onto heavy paper and cut into 22 cards.  Each group puts their set of cards face down on the desk. The object of the game is to match the picture cards with their corresponding colour card (e.g Bat & black). They can either play in groups or pairs. If they're not sure of colours yet you can change the font colour to match the name of the colour too. Mine were happy to just get on with it which gave me time to focus on the lower level students. Laminate them if you want to use them again though!

Here is a review ppt I made. It's good for the 2nd or 3rd period of this lesson. My third graders already know all the colors so I wanted to use the lesson to help expand their vocabulary a bit. At the end of the ppt is an I spy game. Also, at the end of class I did a listening/color activity with them. It's a color by numbers wrksheet I made, but on the student's copy there is no answer key ( 1 = brown, 2 = orange, ect...) I read the key to them 2x and told them they could write the answers down.

We printed out flashcards of colors and pictures from that video (blue sky, yellow sun, etc) along with the colors and objects from this song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyolmlXFBYY.

We put all the flashcards on the board and sang the Color Song starting off how the do in the video. First the verse for blue sky, then yellow sun + blue sky, then green grass + yellow sun + blue sky etc. We kept adding in our flascards (ex. What color is the paint? It's pink, it's pink, it's pink. The paint is pink, the apple is red, the grass is green, etc) and by the last verse we had 12 different colors and objects. I let a random student pick out which flashcard we would sing next and they really liked it.

Here's an intro presentation with a couple of games.

All files were found elsewhere and then modified. Thanks to the original uploaders.

The first is an introduction to the unit that I have updated to include more colors (pink, grey, gold, silver). The end of the presentation has 2 different books available for online viewing with your class. If you need a username for the Tumblebooks site and can't find one online, please send me a private message.

The second is a Hotseat or Taboo-type game that I made using another presentation. A color is presented to the students while one student has his or her back turned to the screen. The rest of the students can say anything that is that color, but they cannot say the color itself. Eg. If the color is blue, they can say: "sky," "bird," "eyes," or anything around the classroom but they can't say "blue." This can also be played in groups where one student in each group sits facing away from the screen. Each student has to guess 3 colors before their turn is finished. You can also compete to see which team can help their team member guess the 3 colors the fastest.

The third game presents color words that are written in different colors. For example, the word "blue" might be written in red. The students have to say "It's red" when the word appears, and not "It's blue" as fast as possible. They can play in groups of 4-5 and compete for who can say the color the fastest.

Eye spy is another game I played with the kids, and it went over surprisingly well. It workes as a whole-class activity and as a small-group game. It didn't take much explaining other than an example and a slide that gave the "I spy..." prompt.

The Simon Color Game. For those of you with touch screens!

Here's the link for this website. (You'll have to manually select the Simon Game.) The tweeting bird game is the same thing- but the rounds go much slower.

http://www.echalk.co.uk/amusements/games/games.aspx

I usually do moving games for my kids (since I have lots of room in my classroom and my coteacher doesn't). But I think the kids will have a crazy time getting to use the touch screen for this game.

To make it harder I'm going to cover the eyes of the toucher and have the class call out the color sequence to help them.

Can be done as teams, as a class, individually, or as a quick warm up/ review acitivity.
Enjoy!

My coteacher has become obsessed with Snakes & Ladders. So here's one for this lesson. You must print it on a color printer, but since you only need one for every two students and then can reuse them for all your classes, it shouldn't be a problem.

And here's a colors ppt for second period. It reviews colors, then practices "I like" and "I have a new sweater/shirt" (using all dogs wearing sweaters!).

Okay, so... because I'm slightly OCD and was sad that the other angry birds games were nothing like the actual game, I spent a butt load of time and made this one.

Hints:
You may need to re-add the video I'm attaching.
When you're done with round 1, click the red bird and then the rainbow square that appears to go to round 2.
When you're done with round 2, click the black box around the map to go to the end sequence.
For the Asia slide on the map, I included a picture of my kids' school.  You'd probably do well to replace it with one of yours.
Not all fonts work on all computers, so check sizes and things before using.

Enjoy.

I used this Color Robot song with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade. The song is timed slowly at the beginning that allows them to repeat with it....but it slowly speeds up as it repeats....which kind of turns it into a game of how fast can you say it???? super fun http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7XZlWXF_LRk

I find my third graders to be my most difficult students and even harder to motivate them. as a fun activity for this unit i printed a few pitures of butterflies (just black and white) i labeled the white spaces different colours and some butterflies i left empty for them to choose their own colours and label it on their own. It worked really well and it helped them recognize the words/spelling and helped them associate the words with the colours.

Hello Guys,

I am teaching Colors for the third grade! Below is the link I used to help or try to help my students have fun learning about the colors. The song is quite short and it is easy for the students to memorize it. Let me know what you think.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9gCUpVwqa8

The name of the song is the Color Song and I got it from Youtube.

Thanks,
IWG

I wanted an extra activity to practice colors without just simply giving them a regular coloring sheet.  I found a fun activity online, it's a color-by-number with a grid, so you can't tell what the picture is until you actually color it.
I found some online (http://www.printactivities.com/HiddenPictures.html), but I thought they were a little boring, so I made some more exciting ones.
Page 1--> angry bird  Page 2--> Mario hitting a mystery block
Page 3--> Rilakkuma (just looks like a teddy bear with a blanket) Page 4--> Hello Kitty
Hope you can use them, it's a fun/relaxing 10-15 min activity. The empty boxes next the color name is for you & your students to identify the colors together and use as a simple guide.
