I taught this lesson about New York City to my classes this week. It's a good cultural lesson for students. Many students didn't even know the name "The Statue of Liberty." There's a worksheet attached with a listening gap fill for the song "New York, New York" (youtube link included) and some activities to test their comprehension of the lesson.

I've attached the old version ppt and word files (which might be a bit warped) and the pptx files.

I hope this is useful to some of you.

I gotta say this ppt is amazing! All the pictures of SHINEE and other pop culture icons talking about New York. It gives me goosebumps just thinking about it.

I have been teaching this lesson to Grade 2 Middle School this week. For the most part they love it. I give them a prize for who can finish parts 2-4 on the worksheet and they go crazy. The best part is, those who were listening will always finish it first hahah! Sweet sweet justice.

Great lesson, I modified it a bit to fit my students but it's perfect!

I was asked to show a "movie" to the 3rd graders as a treat for finishing exams. I decided to use this lesson this week and then let them watch The Simpsons NYC episode next week, identifying famous sites and whatnot.

I have to use one with subtitles for most of my classes, it was easy to search on Naver:

This is a truly excellent powerpoint and I think it'll probably fill up my entire 90minute evening class. You have also unknowingly challenged me to make an even better ppt about London.

Great lesson plan! Just FYI I downloaded the song off mediafire and the lyrics are a bit different. So if anyone plans on using the audio (I thought that using the video would distract them a bit to much.) here are the lyrics as I heard them.

New York might be special to those of us in the western world but really the cities here in Asia beat New York. If I was a Korean hearing about the "city that never sleeps", I would be thinking big deal we have Seoul.

duchessrachel thanks again for posting this :) my students already sit in teams of six, and i gave each group a mini whiteboard, marker and eraser and made a game show out of it. they got REALLY into it, and i was impressed to see students who don't normally speak in class really took the lead and helped out their groups. it was a great lesson for my third graders who have already finished their exams and need some motivation! :)

Fantastic, I love creative PPTs that are heavy on pictures and have a few key structures to practice. This is perfect for me :). Definitely doing this today afterschool!

Creeper1, although you're right to a good extent, keep in mind that virtually all Korean kids LOVE New York (or at least the idea of New York) and they really lap up a lesson on it. They also love Paris and London so a lesson on them would go down just as well, although they don't know so much basic information about Paris.

ppt looks great and fun today's my last day of 'afterschool' program, so i ll use it....also i will add my pictures from Nyc tour as well in case my kids forgot I am a native teacher. hahahah thx !

Great PPT and worksheet! The year is almost over and the students need to have some fun. I just used washboards and made it a game (modified the PPT to fit my students level). The students had fun and the co-teachers said the lesson was well prepared. Thanksa!
