Here's a 'What's Missing' game I made. Have the Ss practice the sample sentences. Next, have them listen and repeat after you, for each picture on the slide 'Remember what you did yesterday.' The Ss must say the sentence of the missing picture. It's surprising, how well some the Ss memories are on this type of game!

This is a Chase the Vocab PPT I modified for the lesson. I think it makes for a good quick game at the end of period 1 or beginning of period 2 to practice listening and/or speaking.

Here's the phrases it covers: I watched TV, I watched a movie, I played soccer, I played basketball, I washed the dishes, I helped my mom, I studied English, I went to the zoo, I did my homework, I cleaned my room.

Here is an Angry Birds game I modified to fit this lesson. It uses the awesome template that's been floating around (thanks so much!) and a lot of the pictures from the Simpson's bomb game (thank you too!).

I took the above past tense ppt and changed a few things. Then I created a chase the vocab using the same pictures. Hope it helps someone~

Here is a ppt featuring doraemon and hello kitty to use with the dialogue in Period 2. Students can put their hands up to say any sentences they remember from Look & Listen. If they get an answer right, you can reward them with a sticker/point or whatever reward system you use. Click on the Jack in the Box to go back to the main slide. Click on the monkeys to take you to listen and repeat. For listen and repeat, there are also blank dialogue boxes to see if the kids can remember.

Before you go to class, make sure you print out the answer slide to have in front of you. Works great with all grades 3-6!

I like the Uno game, great submission. It's a lot of work to prepare, but once the cards are laminated and cut out, they can be used for many different lessons.

I modified an instructional PowerPoint that I found elsewhere that explains how to play Uno (and changed it quite a bit). Most of the kids already knew the game, so it went really smoothly.

I also attached the introductory presentation I used. I modified one of the presentations posted above, so thanks to the original uploader.

There are a few worksheets as well. We did the first one during Period 1, but we found that a lot of the students were already familiar with the past tense. The second worksheet is more of a gap-fill exercise/survey, and includes some common irregular verbs that weren't covered in the first lesson. The third worksheet was a more advanced worksheet that we gave to students who finished very quickly.

The kids really liked both of them. After the videos finish playing I always ask them questions about which words they heard.

Attached is the intro powerpoint that I plan on using. I hope it helps drive across the concept. Also attached is a modified Simpsons bomb game that someone else posted on this thread. I changed some sentences on the slide so that it matches the intro powerpoint.

At the end of the intro ppt are some review slides that you can whip out to wrap up the class.

Here's a trashball game I modified from a 6th grade lesson on past tense. Each team's points should all add up to be the same including the bonus points.

Attached is the intro for class. The first half reviews the expressions from the 1st period, and the 2nd half introduces the expression "Did you...yesterday". Thanks to the person who made the guessing slides. I found it in the 6th grade thread.

Attached is an Angry Birds Bomb game. It uses expressions that are covered in the intro ppt.

Was wondering how many sets of cards do you need for a class with 25+ students?

For Uno, 5-6 students per group works well and each group should have a full set of 56 cards. You could play in larger groups if each student starts with fewer cards, but then they won't get as much practice using the past tense. Each of my classes has about 30 students so we made 6 sets and played in groups of 5.

This ppt compares pat tense to present... easy verbs such as see,run... or verbs covered earlier in the book...
