Great lesson idea.  It's helpful that it's easy to find Konglish on most of the clothing here! I was a little worried about insulting the students, or making them feel 'stupid', in a way, but I think it can be done in a delicate way ;)
Thanks for the ppt!

Great PPt. I took the second half and plugged it into Starcraft bomb game if anyone wants! by the way only the first round works 20qs do not move on to round 2.

I have used this lesson a couple of times and think that it is great. I am currently tweaking it to make it more suited to Canada.

Great PPT. I use it as a whole lesson on it's own and also incorporated a worksheet to review and summarize what they learned from the PPT. Worked well with my middle schoolers. Feel free to use/adapt it!

I did Konglish with my kids and it went over really well with my higher levels, but a lot was lost on my lower level kiddos. They didn't understand a lot, even after a lot of explanation. Just a warning to those teaching ONLY lower levels to be ready for a lot of explanation.

Excellent stuff!  It might need a bit of censorship...  Looking through the presentation, I actually LEARNED a few things!  Thank you, and well done!

A Konglish worksheet. Students enjoy and takes some time in the class.

I found this to be a fantastic lesson.

I am uploading a Jeopardy game I made to go with the lesson...primarily if there is too much time left at the end of the lesson.

I did this lesson today with my class. I'm recovering from having overused my voice, so I'm teaching today with a very low voice, which I noticed effects them a great deal. when I laughed, they laughed, when I was quiet, they were serious. Except for the "glamor shot" (sorry, couldn't resist) I wasn't getting enough of a response from them. I thought, maybe they hate it? Maybe I'm boring the heck out of them? what do i do? well, I persevered with the lesson because I didn't have a plan B. we didn't have time to finish the whole thing. So after class I was really surprised with half the class (mostly girls!) came running up to the screen demanding that I go to the next slide, hurry, hurry. and then the next one, hurry, hurry. They didn't want to leave!! I loved it.  They loved it. Thank you!

I'm glad it worked for you ^^. I think that delivery often makes a big difference in this lesson. It's interesting when you think a lesson is bombing, only to discover that the students were actually really interested. haha. Sometimes it's hard to read their expressions.

Just wanted to bump this and say what a massive success it's been with my middle school classes, they all love it!!  (Crap Cake Burger gets a huge laugh every time.  I make sure to do a big dramatic pause before I explain what crap is.)

Awesome!!  Thanks a bunch!!  It even helped to give me some ideas of other pictures to add of shirts and other writings I've seen in Korea that wouldn't necessarily be deemed "appropriate" in a native English speaking country.

"Success is not the result of spontaneous combustion. You must set yourself on fire." is not "crazy talk." The memory part, however, makes no sense. Other than that, nice ppt!

it's not "crazy talk"
its a metaphor, and a rich one at that.

good lesson. I'm going to try and split it into 2 parts for my afterschool program. I just removed the glamour slides. it's just my third week in and I don't want to ruffle any feathers in my first month.

cheers on the lesson though!
