This was for my 2nd Grade middle school classes. It was a ton of fun and really got my students shouting out the new vocabulary and expressions.
This corresponds with Lesson 8 in the William Roszell textbook, but can be used as an independent class.
The ppt is pretty self explanatory, but the run down is this:
- Introduce the Lesson with a youtube video of the American Game Show, Wipe Out! The link is on the ppt. The kids will be grimacing and laughing. Then explain that you will be teaching them how to warn people of danger.
- Next you will introduce the new vocabulary and expressions. There are examples of photos after each new expression.
- The students can practice the new expressions by coming up with the appropriate warning for a set of new photos. I had my students raise their hands to answer and allowed 2-3 students for each photo to allow them to be creative and combine warnings.
- Then, I had my students arrange their desks into groups of 4 students each. I gave them a blank sheet of paper and told them they must come up with an accurate and creative warning for each of the new photos I would show them. I used myself, some students and my boyfriend in the photos and they LOVED it! After all the photos, I allowed each group to share their favorites.
- After that, I told each group they had 3 minutes to think of a situation where they would need to warn someone of danger. Then they had to perform it in front of the class, and get the other students to call it out! Some students were really creative!
- We finished with a fun sing a long to a KPop song called, "Watch Out!" If we had time, I allowed the students to make their own sign, but others we just shouted out the "Watch Out!" chorus!
I hope this gives some teachers a fun lesson for the end of the school year!
