Grade 6 - Lesson 1 - Where are you from - 대교
« on: February 13, 2012, 01:17:11 pm »
Well, the new books have arrived and we have plenty of new material to develop. Last year's Lesson 1 is moderately similar to the Daegyo book's Lesson 1.  Feel free to look through the previous book's thread here. http://waygook.org/index.php/topic,1147.0.html It may be useful, but I'm sure this thread will fill up plenty fast with great resources.

Last year's Lesson 1 centered on "Where are you from" and ordinal numbers. (first, second, third, etc). This year's centers on "Where are you from" and "It's in the western part of....."

The two items attached below are a Pokemon Powerpoint bomb game (should be pretty amusing) and an edited version of Sheila's Lesson 1 worksheet from last year. Same format, but with updated target language and video dialogue. I uploaded it as a .docx, .doc, and .pdf for both compatibility and formatting. Whenever I hand out worksheets like these, I print one original (for myself) and delete it on the students version for them to fill in the blank. Hopefully this helps! And if there are any mistakes, let me know and I'll go ahead and edit this post with the updated version.

Here's a power point you can use to practice saying where people are from.

*** There was a problem with the first ppt. I've fixed it. I've also added a worksheet for Fun Talk 1.

Double sided worksheet covering an introduction, funtalk 1 & 2 and Listen and Repeat 1& 2. The intro is based around England, (a bit of poetic license with the locations!) you may want to change this to suit your home country.

Fill in the blank dialog worksheet for 2nd period and country flag game for whenever the mood strikes!
*For the fill in the blank worksheet, after students complete it, you can have them get into groups of 4 and practice the dialog together. After, you can have groups volunteer to do their parts in front of the class for a sticker/stamp. :)

I combined some of your worksheets into one. I've done it so that it can be stuck into students' notebooks. It covers Fun Talk 1, Listen and Do 1, Listen and Repeat 1 and I've included some cards that can be used as a survey game in Talk and Play 1.

Picture folder and updated xml file to work with Daejeons Angry Birds flash game. Download his game here: http://waygook.org/index.php/topic,9490.msg77224.html#msg77224 and replace his xml and images folder with these ones. Launch the flash game and it should have all my pictures in so you can play bomb game, board game, hangman and review slides.

I made this one to incorportate national flags and the various countries' locations on the globe along with the key sentences. It's one of the best PPTs I think I've ever done and went over pretty well when I used a slightly earlier variation to review during summer camp.

Basic intro page followed by 3 mini tests to be taken at the start of each following class. There is also a word search for homework. My students are very low level and the material reflects that. For the last test I will get my co teacher to write the target language in korean so the kids can translate it back to english. It is very basic stuff I'm afraid.

This is a fill-in-the-gaps worksheet to go along with period 1's dialogue. Students can also fill in the Korean translations of key words and the points of the compass.

Hey thanks heaps for the game. But how do you get it to work? I went to the waygook link and downloaded an angry bird game, but there were two to choose from. And then how do you get the information into the game. There were no files to replace with yours?????????

Hello,

This is my first board game.

Materials needed: board game, die, and markers for each player.

This game focuses on using the main target language:
Where are you from?
I'm from ____.

I did write directions on the board game for the students who may need to read than just listen. It is a fairly short game but you can always make them play the best 2 of 3 games, etc. You can also change your directions/rules as needed to fit your classes simply by editing in ppt.

Another option is play it a second time using the questions:
Where are you from?
I'm from ____.
Can you spell it?

Hope your students like it  ;D

***EDIT***
I looked at it again and just went ahead and made a longer board with 35 spaces versus the original 27 spaces; you can pick and choose as needed. The longer file is 6.1.bgcountrylong >.<

Sorry about that, I was obviously clear as mud! Follow the above link and download either the Angry Birds app. (The first download on the page. angrybirdsapp.rar) Unzip the files to a new folder and you'll see that two of the files are the same name as the ones I've uploaded. Replace his files with mine and it should automatically use my pictures and questions in the games. Let me know if it doesn't work.

Anyone seen Yakko's World from Animaniacs when they were little?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x88Z5txBc7w&feature=related

Great way to introduce the lesson as a warm-up. You can, also, try printing out all the countries and see if anyone can
master the song (which is impossible). Then each student can choose a country they want to research on and make a
project at the end of the lesson. You can come up with different projects depending on their level. My students are low-level students so we're probably gonna do some arts and craft.

They also have Wakko's 50 States and Capitals if you want to do that instead (if you're introducing all the States in American instead of all the different countries).
