(대교 Daegyo) Grade 5, Lesson 1 - "How's it Going?"
« on: February 20, 2012, 09:23:41 am »
Here's something I thought up to enable the students to practice the vocabulary. I have a maximum of 30 students, so I'l be dividing them into half. They have to find their corresponding character match. The first five pairs to find each other get a prize (stamp).

5th Grade, Lesson 1, How's it going? 대교

I'm not so sure this will work, but here are some modified ppt's from last year's grade textbook.  The "I'm sick" ppt was made to go with the telepathy game.  Since the telepathy game was made with more vocab and 6th graders in mind, I tried not to introduce too much extra vocabulary.  I left a few things in, but just tried to focus on the "_ache" ailments (stomachache, headache, etc.).

I'd love some feedback if you do try it out, though.

Thanks to the original creator of the telepathy game.  Sorry, I don't remember who I got this game from last year.   :-[

Worksheets for fun talk 1 and fun talk 2. My worksheets do not have many instructions on them as my classes are small and fairly low level so it is easier to go through them as a class. So if you have any questions please ask.

Here's a super basic PPT for Period/Part 1. It goes over the core vocabulary, and the Listen and Repeat dialogues.  I made it to substitute the Listen and Repeat from the CD-ROM.

This one proved to be a bit hit with my co-teachers and the kids. Using a game character really does help a LOT it seems.  8)

Here's a simple intro using some of the material already posted.

And a simple fun bomb game practicing the material in the book.

How does one use the telepathy ppt in conjuction with I'm sick ppt. I understand the sick ppt and I think that would be a fun guessing game for the kids. How does the telepathy game work?
Thanks.

Here is a another fill in the blank worksheet.  You may want to make the spaces bigger.

This is a two part pass the dice game for period 1.  My students really like it and it lets them practice the dialog.

Here's a Spongebob Ppt for the Practice section. I found it on here and changed it to cover the new expressions (thanks to the original poster.)
In the second part, students use the cards from the back of the textbook and hold up the correct answer.

Guess-the-picture game.

Here is a guess-the-picture game using Jacob Boer's template.  I adapted from a 4th grade lesson from last year called "What's the matter?".  I also make sure to stress the difference between "I have a cold.", "I'm sick.", and "I have a fever.".

Here's a quick review PPT, good for the beginning of 3rd/4th period, or at the end of 2nd or 3rd. It covers the basic greetings and goodbyes. The words are mixed up, and they have to guess the correct order. The correct version is then shown.

I used these pictures and threw together a slap game.  First I had them practice a couple times to memorize the sentences and the pictures.  I had about enough time (after doing the cd-rom bit) to get through 2 rounds per group (6 groups in my classes).  thanks for the original ppt!

This is a  board game using ppt. Just print and glue together on a file folder. It is a full size board game focusing on the expressions, "How's it going?" "How are you?" and responding with, "I'm okay. Not so good. I'm sick, etc" I did teach my students some ailments like "I have a backache. I have a toothache." You can switch the pictures and/or phrases as needed. Hope your class likes it  :D
