We can do this! Let's get this ball rolling, y'all!

-Handout/worksheet for day 1 of lesson 1. Script, gap fill, matching, and bingo sheet on page 2
-Bingo ppt game. It's only set up for one round of 16 questions, so I'll just repeat it for a second round if we have time. When the students get the word, they stand up & I ask a question. So if the screen says "What grade are you in?" I ask them "What's the answer? 3...2...1..." and they say "I'm in the 6th grade." Or whatever; have fun with it.

Regarding the worksheet, I use a ton of different fonts to keep things from getting stale (check out dafont.com if you're interested) so you might have to edit the formatting.

Edit: Neeeevermind. Mods are consolidating the threads.

This lesson is problematic because the definite article in front of "x Grade" sends shivers down my spine.  I really liked the bingo sheet from the previous post, and have yet to use it.

For mine, I borrowed the template from a fifth grade worksheet, and provided corrections by removing the definite article in the appropriate places.  Hope this helps.

Hey,
Here are the materials I have prepared for unit 1. There are two power points and 2 activities (Snakes and Ladders / Flick Race).

PPT 1: Grade 6 - Unit 1 - I'm in the sixth grade - Grammar Pt1
(Updated to remove a few errors - Mach 2nd 2012)

This one focuses on the following grammar points:

a) ordinal numbers (review / introduction)
b) when to use

PPT 1: Grade 6 - Unit 1 - I'm in the sixth grade - Grammar Pt2
(Updated to remove a few errors - Mach 2nd 2012)

This one focuses on the following grammar points:

a) Ordinal number review
b) prepositions

Grade 6 - Unit 1 - Snakes & Ladders

This is a game template i made. I used the same formatting as popular games (such as Angry Birds - Thanks to the maker of that) to make a simple to use Snakes and Ladders board game.

To move the counters (a soccer ball and a basketball) simply click once to 'pick' them up, and click again to 'drop' them.

Each square on the board has a link to another slide (the question slides). The link is situated along the top of each square (it is invisible). Click the top of a a square to go to the question slides (There are 20  different slides - they may come up several times during the game - so don't be surprised if the same questions come up 3 or so times)

On the question slides, click the question box to show the answers. The heart with snake icon that appears will link you back to the main board). On the slides with cartoon characters and conversations click the character on the right of the screen to reveal the conversation boxes one by one.

When you 'drop' the balls on the relevant squares (on the main game board) - make sure to drop them near the bottom of the square (if you drop them at the top of the box, the hyper link will activate).

Grade 6 - Unit 1 -  Flick Race
(Updated to remove a few errors - Mach 2nd 2012)

I stole this idea / template from someone else and modified it for this unit (and tried to improve the appearance / functionality of it also)
Rules can be found on the attached document.

Hope these are of use,

Any suggestions, drop me a message.

The Ordinal Hotel
« Reply #7 on: March 02, 2012, 08:23:31 AM »
This is a PPT I created last year for sixth grade for another textbook. This semester, I'll be using this YBM book and I see that Chaper One deals with ordinal numbers.

This is the Oridinal Hotel PPT game. Break class into groups. Show first slide as an example. Have the kids say a full sentence like this: "Sally's room is on the third floor, fourth room" and so on. First team to say the correct answer gets 100 points.

Game has two parts, check-in and check-out. The check-out part is kind of a review of the first part (play it if you have time).

Enjoy the game!

Here is an Activity Worksheet.  I used some stuff from other activity worksheets and added a little more.

Worksheet contains:

- Key words
- Dialogue A and B from CD
- Match phrases
- Unscramble word or sentence
- Complete the word (Ordinal numbers)

The first page with the key words, is actually the second page in the document.  Tried to format it but was unsuccessful.

Enjoy~!

Hello again,

So another user asked me if I could post the Bingo game, but a .ppt version instead of .pptx.
Here we go (I think this will work...)

Edit: Righto. Didn't work. Not sure how to change it to a .ppt then... v_kcin, let me know if that worked or not!

Simple worksheet.  Has the key phrases, vocab, a set of dialogs (not from the book), and then two activities for games - for one the students fill in a short profile, for the other they interview classmates and fill in the info.

In the UK, we would say "I'm in sixth grade" and wouldn't use "the".

"I'm in the sixth grade" sounds wrong to my English ears!

pbfconnor has a very good flick game up there. I just reskinned it and used it as this.

3/6/2012: greatly expanded the mario kart game.

Here's a ppt I made to go along with the X/O game during the first lesson.

I used pictures of my school and my students, so you may want to edit the game with your own pictures.

I also included the use of the expression "I live on the top floor". Feel free to add/remove that.

I changed the Hotel Game to a school in order to include What grade are you in?  If you have any questions on how to play, please let me know.

This thread has been really helpful, thanks heaps. I was just told today that my Wednesday and Thursday classes were swapping. Needless to say, I the other way organized... haha if that makes sense. Gotta love the 'last-minute' culture here!
