(YBM) Grade 5, Lesson 1 - "I Have a New English Teacher"
« on: February 29, 2012, 09:40:02 am »
Here is a PPT adapted for the YBM Text book.  BTW, you may need to "enable external content" when you first open the PPT to watch the video.

I'd rather spend 1000 winters in Korea than have to deal through one more summer.

Working from scratch is extremely difficult. Here's what I have compiled for this lesson.

Hello everyone,

This is my first year teaching, so obviously it is also my first time using this new textbook. My co-teacher has already shown me the CDs. So far I really like the concepts and layout of the chapters. As the new NET, I need to come up with 20 minutes of activity time to accompany the text. I really want to stay away from just games, and my co-teacher wants my activities to be more educational. Any ideas, or have any of you made activites for this lesson already? Any help would be great for my first week! Thanks :)

Here's the 2012 version of the 'Guess The Country' game (titled 'Where Is Your English Teacher From?' for this lesson)...now with National Anthems!  Each country has four clues (some have five including the anthem)...and students need to 'Guess The Country' (hence the former name!).

My students have always enjoyed this in the past...and I think that they'll enjoy it this year as well.  I hope yours do too.

Also attached is my gentle re-working of one of fakeplasticrevo's fantastic introduction ppts.  No major changes...just asthetics.  Thanks to fakeplasticrevo for the great work!

Hey, I'll be doing this lesson on Monday.  Can someone please give me a few written ideas? I'm new to teaching public school in Korea.

Hi!

You don't have enough posts to download stuff...so I uploaded the two ppts that I posted onto my blog for you...along with a bit of a run through of stuff you can do in the first lesson.   Good luck!

Can anyone tell me if the YBM book comes with a CD, because the books arrived at the school without the CD. My school is trying to tell me that it dosnt have a CD. Is this true?

Where are you from word search
Colour the world activity (advanced students can read and do the activity alone. Others let them work in groups and help each other)
Cryptogram

You can find them on the CD. Look under ..\Program Files\YBM\SISA5_CD1\disk1\ebook for images within the chapters. These are in SWF format, by the way.

Also look under ..\Program Files\YBM\SISA5_CD1\gloabl\jpg for JPEGs of the activity materials at the back of the book.

This is all of my materials from Lesson 1. If you have any questions, feel free to email me. They are broken down by the sections like Look and Listen, Look and Speak, Red It, Write It, Wrap Up. I have not made something for Story Box.
