#KELTChat - Twitter chat for teachers in Korea. Sunday, 8pm.
« on: March 01, 2012, 09:35:40 pm »
A few teachers I've met online and in person are organising a Twitter chat along the lines of #eltchat .

The first chat is on Sunday at 8pm Korea time, and will be on the subject of "The First Day of School". Expect lots of ideas for ice breakers, classroom management systems, horror stories and anything else.

We're also hoping to make the hashtag #KELTChat a permanent one on Twitter for anyone wishing to share resources or ask questions relating to teaching in Korea.

You can find more details here: http://keltchat.wordpress.com/

We'd love it if you could join us. If you have any questions, please feel free to post them below, message me or tweet me at @breathyvowel.

Cheers,

Alex

I've never participated in a Twitter chat before... seems redundant given the tiny limit for Q and A all under 160 characters. I also have book club that hour, but I'll multitask a bit.

* 140 characters

Yeah, you're right, it is a bit of a hassle crunching what you want to say, but you can always stretch it over a couple of tweets, and it's great for sharing links. Cheers for your interest anyway.

Bumpity bump to say we're doing this again on Sunday, 8pm.

This week's topic is learning strategies. If you don;t know what they are - look here: http://keltchat.wordpress.com/2012/03/14/keltchat-2-sunday-17th-march-8pm-teaching-our-learners-how-to-learn-languages/ and then come along on Sunday to find out more.

If you're a newbie teacher, this is a good chance to meet some people who have been here waaaaaaaaaay too long, and ask them lots of questions :)

Cheers,

A

Not a very good time with me given my book club meeting. I thought I would mutlitask last time and certainly failed! I'll go back once the club meeting is over to read the chat!

Thanks for your interest :) We could actually think about changing the time for the next one, but I've already publicised this one.

If you skim the chat after and have questions or stuff to contribute, just tweet it. The mods at least have a #KELTChat search running permanently, so it will still get seen and added to summaries and suchlike.

We're back for round 3, and this may be a really useful one for people on this board. We're discussing how to build confidence (and with it involvement) in Korean learners:

http://keltchat.wordpress.com/2012/03/29/keltchat-3-sunday-1st-april-8pm-fostering-confidence-in-korean-students/

If you can't make it to the chat itself, you can always catch up on the summary of each chat. #KELTChat 2's summary is below:

http://keltchat.wordpress.com/2012/03/21/keltchat-summary-for-march-17-2012-teaching-our-learners-how-to-learn-languages/

If you have anything to contribute at any time, the #KELTChat hashtag is operational all week, so just send us a tweet.

Cheers,

A

Back once again (with the ill behaviour) is #KELTChat, Sunday, 8pm. This week focuses on integrating your personal teaching beliefs with those of your institution. Here's the preview from the #KELTChat blog at: http://keltchat.wordpress.com/2012/04/12/keltchat-4-sunday-april-15-8pm-integrating-personal-teaching-beliefs-at-work/

Quote
Does the school you teach at want you to use a coursebook, but you’d rather follow your students’ learning needs? Does your university force you to grade on a curve, and you hate how heartbreaking this will be for Jin Soo who has been trying hard all year? Do you feel like you’re hagwon is asking you to be an entertainer instead of a teacher?

This Sunday’s KELTchat will focus on how teachers have been able to deal with institutional frameworks that seem to be in complete opposition to their personal teaching beliefs. Perhaps you’ve found creative ways around such issues. Maybe you’ve developed coping strategies such as joining peer support groups. We’d love to hear your success stories as we know they will be a great source of inspiration.

We'd love to see anyone from this board there contributing or just lurking (though please do say hi). Any questions shoot anyone involved a question via Tweet or through the blog.

Cheers,

A
