my simple first day lesson plan
« on: March 05, 2012, 04:32:25 PM »
Hi everyone!
I think on the first day of class, one should prepare a powerpoint with lots of pictures about oneself and one's family and tell one's class about the places one has lived or visited, however... since I have been at my schools for two years, these kids know me already.  oh, they would enjoy it, I'm sure, but we've "been there, done that." I work in one middle school and two elementary. My last year's 6th graders are this year's 1st year middle school students. I think I know all but one student. So we are not doing introductions--not 50 minutes worth!

I was told this morning that our tv/computer set up is down, so I have to prepare a lesson plan without using electronics. I found some funny pictures on animals on the internet. I'll post some pictures here so you can get an idea of what I'm talking about. I have very small class sizes, so at most, I need 15 pictures. I am going to pass out a picture to each student and ask them to write a story about the picture. Please specify how many sentence you want then to write. I will write three questions on the board, ask them to pick one question. 1) what is s/he doing? 2) what happened? (how did s/he get here?) 3) what will happen next? I will give them 10 minutes to write and then ask them to read.

I have to laminate my pictures if I expect to reuse them again for anything.
and of course, I'm removing any inappropriate captions.
suggestions for improvement always welcome!

I on the other hand prepared a very nice introduction PPP after I was told that I would be giving the class today. Today they told me no, I'm goung to give two lessons, one in five minutes times. Then they told me that I wouldn't be giving any lessons today, but three tomorrow. Then they told me that I wouldn't be giving any lessons tomorrow but two on Friday. I don't know what's going on.

Hey Merryone! I liked the lesson plan for your first day. One suggestion for anyone else doing their first day PPT - always include pictures of yourself doing things....the students absolutely love it! Having your family is great, but since you are their teacher they really get into the class when you show them pictures of you doing things. (the more extreme the better - my scuba diving and surfing pictures really worked wonders to get them on my side!!)

 :)

This is a good idea. I would need to make it much easier for most of my kids though  :o

Land of the morning calm?  More like land of the daily change.  Just hang in there.  You're not the only one.  I was told yesterday, my first day in the high school I'm in, that I would just be observing the class.  So I left all of my things back in the office before going to the classroom, including my flash drive with my lovely intro PPT on it.  Get into the room and I'm thrown in front of the class to intoduce myself for 45 minutes.  Thank god for google earth is all I have to say.
