High School Lesson - Prom

This is a lesson I did on Prom with my high schoolers (intermediate and high level students) and they loved it.

I went through the power point and spent time on each slide, explaining things in detail and asking them questions too.
I introduced the new vocabulary in the 'prom worksheet' doc and had them fill it in after I explained the new words.

I have included the "Design your own Prom" I did with them as a follow up lesson - I got some interesting answers from them and they enjoyed this!

Hi,

I did this topic last semester. I also included homecoming week. For their speech tests they had to work in groups, create their own prom or homecoming week celebration, and present the idea to the class. I wish I had my ppt file to share but my jump drive is broken and has all my files. I will definitely use what you have provided.

I used this lesson but I added a little group discussion to it. I showed them some images and told them a story about girls wearing tuxedos to the prom. They did a little discussion where they came up with reasons for and against them being allowed to wear tuxedos. Most of my kids decided that they should be allowed to wear a tuxedo if they wanted to. I thought it worked well and gave them something to think about.

I think this is an awesome lesson thank you so much for sharing. I also read through the other comments you are all very helpful. Prom and Homecoming idea is great that may work for one of my night classes, my classes during the day are too short. The idea of having the students decide if they should be allowed to wear tuxedoes was also good this was very helpful. Thanks again guys!!!

Thanks OP. The lesson went over great with my girls. It was a good refresher for me as sometimes what I think is fun and relevant is anything but that. It showed me once again I need to cater to what they enjoy and (for the most part) they will respond positively. It was also fun to dig out some old pictures. haha. Thanks again

Two of three videos still work in the .pptx file. I'm wondering how you inserted these videos from YouTube in to the PowerPoint file so I can try to re-insert the Twilight clip. Thanks.

first download the twilight clip from youtube using keepvid.com (just copy in the url and download as a mp4)
once you have the clip go the page where you want to insert the video
now go to the insert tab on PP then go to movie on the far right (office 2007)
click "play full screen" and resize to your liking and you're finished^^
