My PowerPoint presentation for Lesson 5 The Adventures of a Bottle.
Focus is on giving your opinion, i.e. Hodong is very funny, and agreeing with an opinion, i.e. I think so, too! / I don't think so.
Students play battleship game making use of the question form of the -ing verb, i.e. Is John playing soccer?
Please adapt and modify as you see fit

I only teach the "Speak Out" section and I have to stretch it out over two weeks.

So this lesson is just the first section on the negative imperative.

The first few slides lay out the dialogue. We practice with that, then I let them do the activity in the book in partners. Next I preteach a bunch of vocabulary from the game:
play with, gum, bus, knife/knives, car, cigarette, yell, swear, shoot, fire/matches, class, cell phone, bus, motorcycle

I do this by acting the words out and having the students guess. When they get the answer I write it on the board.

Then we play the game. They just look at the picture and finish the sentence that starts with "Don't". If they get it right, I make the whole team repeat it. Then they choose a number from 1 - 22. It's just basically a bomb game...bomb...point s...switch scores...

I also made the board a bit bigger to stretch the activity out over a longer period of time.

Also I made a simple powerpoint to spell out the language for them.

I want to make a good powerpoint that demonstrates how to play battleship because they were really confused. My coteacher was confused too, but once she figured it out, it was ok. It took a long time to bring them up to speed though!

I am struggling with the battleship game. I have a few classes left, so I plan to color in boats for them (on the worksheets I already printed, don't waste paper) so that might help.

Does anyone else have any tips to make this game work? I keep trying to do student-centered activities but it mostly fails every time.

I give up.

I played the battle ship game....it was a complete fail and decided not to do it in my other classes....today I'm just going to review in the activities book and play some other fun game semi-related to the lesson. I do not have time to make a whole new one..... :(
