I used this to teach comments that I made up on Youtube. I taught things like LOL, OMG, Epic, and other sentences and let students guess what they meant after watching the video. The students got a kick out of the video.

Hi,

Here's my lesson for 4.1 (the first dialogue only). I found a diet coke and mentos video on You Tube and used that to start off the lesson. The main task involved each student drawing a layout of a room on the template I gave them, then describing their room to their partner, who drew the room from the description on the bottom template. I used a demo in class so this was easier to follow! For feedback I got one person from each table (my kids sit in groups of six) to come up and draw on the board whilst their fellow team members explained the layout to them and asked "are you following me?". They found this pretty hilarious on the whole.

I make all my ppts and docs in Open Office and convert them to share, so please double check the formatting.

Part One: Are you following me?

Yuck what a boring topic! This lesson has three parts, presentation, worksheet and a game.

For the presentation, the dialogue is covered by blocks. Prompt the students for the word and when they get it correct, click the block and it'll disappear. It makes it a little more interesting for the students.

The worksheet is just FITB but print it double sided so that the instructions for the game are on the back

For the game, students have a jumbled set of instructions on the backs of their worksheets. I put them in groups of 4. Start with group one and have them select what they believe to be the first instruction "First...". They follow it up with "Are you following me?/Do you get it?/Are you with me?" If they're correct, answer yes and click the first block. That team will either get some points, a bomb (lose all points) or "Ch" which means change points with another team. The next team tries to get the next instruction.

This lesson covers "Are you following me?"

Thanks, waygook user ckmeyers for the first half of the lesson. I've only modified some to simplify for my kids who need a lot of simplification.

For the second half I take out a set of gonggi (which I absolutely don't have the skills to play) and sit on the floor in front of students. "Can you teach me how to play this?" I ask. Students get very excited and struggle with the language to try to teach me. (This is a pre-assessment, of sorts.)

After that I go to the slide with the vocabulary and run through that. Then they fill out directions for how to play. (I have them do this as a group of 5-6.) Once that's completed they can get a set and play gonggi.

You will need 5 gonggi pieces for each group. They come in a container of 10 for less than $2, so it's not a bad investment. I've never seen a class so active in a good way!

This lesson was a blast and was a successful lesson for an open-class parent observation.

The lesson focuses on page 61:
-"I don't think I/he/she/we/they/you can do that"
-"Do you know why it works?"

I went with the theme of the chapter, "Magic Science Tricks" and found some good, short science tricks online.

You will need:
Water bottles
straws

(In my larger school- 30+ kids per class, I used 1 water bottle and 1 straw for a group of 5. In my smaller school- 8-10 kids per class, I have each student a bottle and straw.) Thre are 4 tricks in the lesson, but only one is demonstrated. The others are in the video link and I skip through the video to show only the tricks in the lesson.

This was the first lesson that I actually taught WITH my co-teacher, so you'll see little yellow smiley faces on the slides that she read/taught. If you co-teach, it's set up for you. Otherwise, brush up on a few Korean phrases and have at it!

I received an email with questions and thought I'd post the response here, as well, if specifics help you:

I have a video at the end with a title of something like "Want to see more tricks?" that you can use if you have time left over (by just playing through- maybe pausing to explain) or skip if you have no time left. It's there as a buffer for that reason.

Slides 19-23: I take time to explain through pantomime. I point out new vocabulary (like cork, for example) and have my co-teacher chime in to clarify, if necessary.

Slide 24: click the link and watch the entire video without stopping. It usually gets a giggle when they see what's going on.

Slide 25: Go over the 4 vocab words at the bottom first. You can explain and students can repeat words after you.

Slide 26: I tell them I have magic powers and will move the straw. Don't let them see you rub the straw on your clothes. Do the trick. They're impressed.

Slide 27: Ask if they know how it works and let them try. I pass out 1 straw and 1 bottle for every 2-3 students, depending on the size of your class. If it's small, all students can have one. Let them try it for a bit, maybe 3 minutes. Then go to slide 28

Slide 28: Ask "Do you know why it works?" Elicit responses. Some may already know. Show the video, but only the straw trick (it's the first one.) Pause the video and come back to the PPT. I teach the word "static" here by writing it on the board.

Slide 29: Repeat what you did on slide 25.

Slides 30-32: I go over the trick again, explaining what he can do, an have students say "Do you know why it works?" I also ask a few. "Do you know why it works?" They'll give some answers (like "gloves?" with the coin pick up trick).

Slide 38: I skip through the video to show the three tricks, pausing during each one to clarify.
1:08 is the vase trick
2:43 is the coin trick
3:41 is the balloon trick

Slide 34: I explain the worksheet and use the phrase "Are you following me" as I do. (It was taught in the previous lesson.)

I toss the worksheet up on the screen by opening the document and lead students through the first one. It's tough and they struggled a bit. The other two were easier.

Review, watch the extra, if you want/have time. And that's it!
