Here is a double worksheet for period 1 & 2. I used a Lesson 1 worksheet as a template.
For the dialogue I left all the words so you can choose the which ones you want blanked out for the listening excercise.

Interview activity.

Birthday Game:

1. Hand the students this form with the names of their classmates already filled in or leave the names blank for a little bit more of a challenge.

2. When the teacher says “Go”, the students should get up and go to every classmate asking “When is your birthday?”

3. The classmate has to respond by saying “My birthday is _____.”

4. The student must write down month & ordinal number.  Either May 11th or May Eleventh - up to you.

5. Then the classmate has to initial to show proof of interview.

6. Put a time restriction on them to make it more challenging.

7. The student with the most birthdays at the end wins.

And to throw a twist in at the end the person with the most names/birthdays, has to say all the names and birthdays that they have on their sheet in front of the entire class.

The game I plan on using for this lesson=having the students line up in order of their Birthdays. Using only English and key phrases.

Directions/Rules:
1. Students need to talk to each other to find out everyone's Bdays.. Using, "When is your Birthday" and "My Birthday is ____".. If the teacher hears ANY Korean, the student(s) who spoke has to sit down.
2. Students line up in order of their Birthdays in the back of the room without a time limit. The class leader decides when the final line has been made.
3. Students recite their Birthday aloud.. When a student is out of order, they have to sit down. The number of students left standing is the "total number" for that class. It's every class against all the others. The class with the highest "total number" wins!

Warm-up - (Listening)

1.  Have all the students stand up.

2.  First select a month in your head and remember it.

3.  Next say any month but the one you selected in Step 2.  Say. "If your birthday is in (MONTH) sit down."  Go through all the months.

4.  If there are a lot of students born in the month you selected then narrow it down even more by saying "If your birthday falls between the first and fifteenth of (month) then sit down."

5.  Last several students standing have to say when there birthday is.  (And reward if you use a reward system.)

Grade 6-Lesson 3 My birthday is April 17th
« Reply #7 on: March 28, 2012, 07:24:24 PM »
Hello, I'm new to the public school system, and start on Monday. I've just transferred from a Hagwon which had a very easy step-by-step syllabus and feel a little lost for my first class Monday.

I'd really appreciate someones help as I'm pretty nervous about it. I have the textbook but I can't really understand it and my co-teacher seems to have dodgy English. I already found a lesson plan but I don't have enough posts yet to download it, plus I don't wanna spam for the privilege, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

The only thing you can really do is allow the book to guide you and create lessons using that grammar. Also Games! for the last 10 minutes of class- I always play a game in order to assest their knowledge and keep them motivated.

First, thanks to everyone who posts here. You guys come up with great stuff and I really admire your creativity.

Second, does anyone teach the "Storyland" section of the book? I teach that for 5th and 6th grade and usually find them pretty dry and boring. I finish up the activities from the last lesson, then just do what's in the teacher's book for the Storyland part. I haven't found anything here specific to that section and I'd love to spice it up a bit, but with most of the stories I don't have any inspiration. Does anyone else teach that part, and if so, what do you do? Thanks!

I tend to skip or rush through the storyland sections.  They're pretty lame.  We predict using the pictures, then watch the video, I ask some comprehension Qs and then we complete the exercise.  That usually takes 20 minutes.  I'd like the final 20 mins to follow the same story theme, but my co-teachers tend to prefer a PPT game that reviews the key dialogue from the lesson.  The lesson doesn't 'flow' but it also avoids getting too boring.

For this lesson, I've decided to cover special days in Korean calenders like children's day and Choseuk etc.. so here is a worksheet I made to review after teaching them on this topic. I've used it as a homework but you can use it in the class as well.

Great reading and response game for students! Directions included in the ppt.

Very simple!

Can be used as a warm up activity or for any portion of Lesson 3. Enjoy!

I also included activities such as "sleepover, piano recital, and wedding" in the presentation. These are the trickiest activities in the ppt. Otherwise, the other activities should be obvious:)
