Blazing pens game for months of the year. Each team had a mini whiteboard. Fastest team to raise their board with the correct answer got 2 points and the second team got 1 point. I only gave points for correct spelling and if they put a capital letter at the beginning of the month.
There's also an unscamble worksheet and Baam game (which I found on a different thread but it relates to this lesson so I thought I'd repost).

Here's a couple WS I'm using for period 3. I really hate period 3. I'm also including a song from youtube that I modified. The youtube one only went over the months twice and repeated the other part like 4 times. The students really like it, though it was a little fast for them at first. We've listened to it twice a class for the last 3 periods and most of them know it well enough that when I drill the months they do it to the tune of the song.

Just a simple flick game to practice month and date. The target language is on the bottom of the game page. :)

I used this game for period three. It's similar to the mystery box game where the students decide whether to keep or give the points to another team.

I played Bingo with my fifth graders using vocab and phrases from 9.1 and 9.2. They loved it!
Here is the site I used to create the cards:
http://print-bingo.com/bingo-cards-custom.php
. Just type in the vocab you want to practice. You may have to go back and forth to print new versions depending on how many you need.
I also printed out my list of vocab and cut each phrase/word out. When I played with the kids I called their numbers randomly (we have a bunch of spoons with the numbers taped to them so you can be sure you've called every kid). I had each one read the phrase two times for the class then I repeated it so everyone could hear.
Have the kids use pencil so they can erase their boards and play again, but make sure the have extras because some will inevitably use pen.

Hi there ~
Here's a PPT I made relating to this topic to reinforce the months and holidays around those months, feel free to adjust the pictures to include other holidays in that month that you think may be more relevant.
I included quite a few korean holidays as this was more of a review, a follow up presentation was going to introduce new holidays for them to practice their dates.
I designed this as a mini game, just getting the kids to guess what the month was using the pictures which show relevant holidays and hints.

I'm new. I don't know what a flick game is. Can you explain?
Students flick a coin/eraser. They must read the date where the coin/eraser lands (eg) my birthday is April 1st.

I did Bingo, too.
I reviewed by asking students when there birthday was.
Then, I gave every student a paper and had them write, "My birthday is ___ _________ (ordinal form)."
I collected the papers.
After, I told them to draw a rectangle in their English notebook with 9 squares.
Only then did I say we were playing Bingo. My students get too excited.
I gave them instructions and asked some students for their birthdays as an example.
We reviewed the key expression one more time and then they started asking their friends when their birthdays were.
When they had nine birthdays written down, they sat down. When all students were sitting I had students take turns reading out the birthdays I had collected earlier on.
We played for four corners, an 'X', and then a full card. It took twenty minutes and went fabulously.

Also, as a finisher for this lesson, I did a moving activity at the back of the classroom, quite a bit of space is needed for the children to move around. Needed around 10-15mins for this, the latter being preferable.
They all have to stand up, then divide the class into two teams, I tried this by either getting them to fold their arms and see which way they fold them, or by getting them to pick their favourite season and then putting together two seasons, as the folded arms didn't always work. Then they have a few speed games they have to complete, I thought it would be really quick but it took some time to explain each activity.
The first, children have to line up in order of their birthdays, the quickest team to complete it correctly wins, however they must use only English (make sure to enforce this). This can also be followed by lining up in order of height, or in order of shoe size. The kids loved moving around and it was fun activity.

Hey there!
Came up with the "Gimme" game for period 2 to get kids to use the key phrase "May I____?" Cut the cards out with the pictures and phrases on them. You pass out the cards until there is no more left. Each player will ask for something May I have some water? and the two players will use rock, paper, scissors to decide if the person gets it or not. If they do, say: Sure/alright/okay If not: Sorry.
My students LOVED this game!! Hope yours love it too :)

My coteacher has begun a campaign heavily focused on writing activities, so here are the worksheets I've created for Story A and Story B. You can find the text in both languages on the CD if your coteacher is absent from class.
Also, I modified a short writing activity from another poster. It now has months scrambled (in order) on one side and weekdays in Korean with ordinal numbers (endings missing) on the back.
The song "7 Days of the Week" by They Might Be Giants was a lot of fun. I've attached a powerpoint of the lyrics and the video is here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etw5vknZEPw
Finally, a half page review worksheet to check student's comprehension at the end of the lesson. It only covers time, we didn't put much emphasis on "May I."

Hey Everybody,
I'm posting a template to be used for the chapter. So far it only has the vocabulary and our daily passwords "phrases taken out of the textbook that the students have to write down for homework." However it's a great way to let the students know what you are doing that day and also a reminder for you. I use PPT's like this every chapter. Then I just add games after going through the material. Hope someone can use it!

Was browsing through materials on this site for another book and stumbled across these easy matching and fill in the blank worksheets. The holidays with asteriks are based on a lunar calendar so be sure to update them if using this worksheet after 2013.

Hello All,
Here is my complete lesson for this chapter. Just finished it so I know it's late, but hopefully someone can use it for next year. If the music files do not work, just download the needed countries songs to your computer and it should work then. For the motivational clip I used parent trap and for the listening activity on lesson six I used the real english movie clip. rules for the listening activity is I played the clip and the students had to write as many birthdays as they heard. Then I showed them they clip to see how many they got correct.

A simple card matching game - students must match the Korean way of writing the date with the English.

My co-teacher asked me to focus on making/using "May I...?" sentences, so here is my response. It's a "Go Fish" game. The rules:
1. Each player gets 5 cards. Dont show anyone your cards!
2. All players put any pairs in their hands face up on the table. If a player has three of a card, he or she cannot lay it down as a triplet.
3. Rock, paper, scissors to see who goes first.
4. He or she asks any one of the other players if he or she has a match for this card. For example, the player says, "May I have some water?"
5. That player says Yes, you may. If they have the card. Or No, you may not. Sorry.
6. If they get the card, lay down the pair and take another turn. If not, take a card from the draw pile and the next person goes.
It will require some cutting out/laminating. Good luck with that! Enjoy!

My co teacher asked me to make a PPT to help explain the rules to Go Fish, because some of my students didn't understand. If you find yourself in the same situation, here you go! I also have all the cards on the PPT, so SS can practice making all the sentences required to play. (SS listen and repeat after you.)
I also made a cheat sheet for this lesson with all the key expressions, and some puzzles. At the end of the PPT, there are answers to the word search from that worksheet. Hope this helps some of you!
